I Can’t Believe I’ve Never Thought of This Brilliant Storage Hack (It Maximizes Storage AND Floor Space!)
Obvious statement: Dorm rooms are extremely small and tight in space. Between school supplies, clothes, appliances, and random essentials, it can feel like it’s impossible to fit all your stuff.
Finding practical storage hacks is key to making dorm life comfortable — and I came across one on TikTok that’s honestly ingenious. It’s super simple but hugely effective, and I can’t believe I didn’t think of it sooner!
In a TikTok video, @organizedetroit demonstrated the idea, calling it “the hack of all hacks” for “under-bed storage in a dorm room.” You take two rolling plastic drawer sets and connect them back-to-back with zip ties. This setup lets you create a rotating storage tower; you can easily spin it to access both sides, doubling the amount of storage and maximizing the amount of floor space you have.
The best part is that you can organize it so that the essentials you use every day, like notebooks or toiletries, are on one side and the things you don’t reach for as much, like extra linens or backup snacks, are on the other. It’s like a mini rotating closet for your room! You can even slide it under your bed to keep it out of the way but still super accessible.
If you’re looking for drawer sets that are great for this, I recommend checking out these Sterilite plastic drawers, which I used my freshman year. They’re sturdy and relatively affordable.
A functional, space-saving solution for your dorm room? We love to see it.
