Go Big, Stay Home” has been the perfect motto for 2020 so far. With all the extra time indoors, odds are you’ve probably changed a thing or two in your space—and according to Google, there’s a high chance rattan might be involved

Google released new data that revealed the most popular interior design trends since the beginning of March—and rattan won by a landslide. According to the data, “rattan furniture” was up in search by 809 percent, which was double the second highest search spike “garden hot tub” that increased by 525 percent (still very impressive).

Google predicts that this jump is a reflection of rattan-style furniture paving the way as a major trend in 2020, which might have been carried over from 2019. Still, there’s no doubt that the huge search increase shows it’s a trend that’s not going anywhere. The second prediction for its popularity spike: the desire to make the most of outdoor spaces.

People might be looking for rattan furniture to deck out their garden spaces, since anyone who is lucky to have an outdoor area is using it. The growing vine look meshes well with the outdoors, making a stylish statement while using its natural texture and color to blend with the environment.

Speaking of gardens, like mentioned above, “garden hot tub” took second place, with “garden seeds” (+400 percent) and “garden design ideas” (+244.8 percent) close behind with their search boosts. There’s a desire to revamp outdoor spaces to spend more time in while we all stay at home more often—and understandably so.

But hey, if you don’t have a garden space, no biggie: there’s plenty of opportunities to deck your interiors with rattan so you bring the outdoor feeling inside, including mirrors, ottomans, and even glassware.
