Many of us have been there: You’re on the hunt for a new sofa but you’re tired of the options at your local stores, so you go online to wrangle some fresh ideas. Plenty make your “maybe” list and grace your dedicated Pinterest board, but you just can’t bite the bullet without sitting on the sofa yourself. We get it…that’s a tricky position to be in. Do you take the risk and cross every appendage in hopes that it’s what you really wanted, or do you settle for something else just because it’s within arms reach? We think that the second best thing to testing something yourself is having a trusted source or two (or 7!) check things out and report back. Enter Sofa Squad.

Seven AT editors (of varying heights and preferences) converged on Blu Dot SoHo and hopped sofa to sofa, taking note along the way of how each sat, how deep and soft/firm they were, if we could see ourselves taking a nap on it, and decided on an overall score (on a scale of 1 to 5.) Every score was tallied and averaged to reveal a final, fair and balanced rating. Which one reigned supreme?

A little info about Blu Dot:

With only six U.S. store locations (San Francisco, Los Angeles, Austin, Chicago, Minneapolis and SoHo), it might be hard to road test Blu Dot’s sofas in an area near you, but that shouldn’t prevent you from partaking in their gorgeous furnishings. Their catalog of exclusive pieces is full of contemporary silhouettes that are still welcoming and cozy, which we love. Their shipping rates are straight-forward (5% of the total purchase price), and you won’t need to wait long for their order as all in-stock items leave the warehouse within 24-48 hours.
