After the tumult of 2020, designers and consumers alike are turning inward and hoping to heal this year. RoomMates Decor, the peel-and-stick division of popular wallpaper brand York Wallcoverings, has incorporated the ethos of healing into its choice for 2021 Color of the Year: Green Aloe, a healing hue that symbolizes new ideas and fresh perspectives. Inspired by the palette of Pantone Spring 2021 haute couture fashion lines, the soothing shade is rooted in nature and representative of renewal.

Along with the 2021 Color of the Year, the wallpaper brand also released an accompanying palate of three additional colors that speak to Green Aloe’s biophilic design and trend, simply called the Biophilic Palette: Cali Coral, a sophisticated coral hue rooted in sophistication and optimism; Painted Desert, a rich earth tone grounded in stability and spirituality; and Aqua Pura, a versatile shade rooted in pastels, seafoam green tones, and mid-level blues.

“We selected Green Aloe as the Color of the Year for a variety of reasons that all speak to what our customer is feeling right now: A desire for change, positivity, evolution, and a fresh start,” Pierre-Jean Delaye, president of RoomMates Decor, said. “It was important to us to capture the bold motion of 2021 as we move past an incredibly challenging year.”

“At the same time, we wanted to tap into the anchoring, healing power of nature and its many facets, [and] this influenced our decision to expand into a full Biophilic Palette,” Delaye said. “Cali Coral, Aqua Pura, and Painted Desert speak to the appetite for evolution that defines first-time homeowners, renters, and design enthusiasts who are looking to change up their environment and embrace positivity and growth in the new year.”

“Together with Green Aloe,” Delaye concluded, “they bring renewed energy to a variety of interiors styles that feel very 2021.”
