Attention, sustainability enthusiasts: the hunt for eco-friendly furniture just got a lot more chic thanks to furniture company Sabai. Founded by Phantila Phataraprasit and Cailtin Ellen, Sabai prides itself as one of the few furniture brands with affordable and stylish products with sustainability at the forefront of its design ethos. Who says you have to compromise style for sustainability? Not Phataraprasit and Ellen, whose collection offers elegant velvet couches made from 100% recycled water bottles.

Sabai’s first collection, called The Essential Collection, features The Essential Sofa ($1,095), The Essential Sectional ($1,395), and The Essential Ottoman ($295), and the furniture is entirely customizable. Each offering comes in a collection of different colors like dusty rose, seafoam green, mustard, indigo, and oat. Most importantly, though, shoppers get to choose the sustainable fabric that will be used. There are two options: recycled velvet, made from 100% recycled water bottles, an option that’s scratch-proof (for pet parents) and stain-resistant, meaning it won’t need any water-repellent treatments.

The second option is upcycled poly, made from 100% upcycled olefin fiber. Like the recycled velvet, it’s scratch-proof and stain-resistant. All of the materials are ethically sourced, too, according to Sabai. The sustainable furniture company was founded after Phataraprasit and Ellen underwent a post-graduation furnishing hunt, according to the co-founders.

“Both of us care deeply about the environment and were taking steps in our own lives to limit our impact,” the founders said. “As we became more familiar with the options available to us, we found that, while sustainability had made it into many sectors, the furniture industry had been slow to catch on.” They added, “Furniture, in particular sofas, are some of the largest items millennials will purchase; however, they had not been brought into the 21st century and did not reflect the values of young consumers. We decided to change that.”
