You know and love shops like West Elm, Ashley Furniture, Pottery Barn, and all those other big-name home furniture stores. But what do you know about Inside Weather and its ultra-customizable furniture? Or about Sabai and its stylish and sustainable offerings? The world of direct-to-consumer furniture brands (or “DTC” brands) is vast, and new brands are coming on the scene every day!

The best part? Because these brands are relatively new, you won’t find their furniture in every other home or living room in the country. It also means you can shop for unique, high-quality furnishings at big-box prices — all from the comfort of your home.

Here are 14 of our favorite direct-to-consumer furniture brands you might not have known about but will be so glad you do now.

Article

Article is quickly becoming one of our favorite DTC furniture brands. The Vancouver-based company offers everything from stylish sofas and bed frames to outdoor furniture, rugs, and decor. Whatever design aesthetic you gravitate toward — mid-century modern, Scandinavian, contemporary, or boho — Article is bound to have options. And because Article works directly with manufacturers, they’re able to make high-quality, high-end pieces at a more reasonable price point than their luxury competitors. We recently got to visit Article’s flagship location in Vancouver to see its most iconic sofas IRL — like the vintage-inspired Sven sofa.

Sabai

Sustainable products often come at pretty high prices, but not at Sabai. All of their home furnishings are made using eco-friendly materials — like recycled, PFAS-free fabrics, FSC-certified wood, CertiPUR-US certified foam, and recycled fiber pillows — and come in eco-friendly packaging, too. Thanks to the direct-to-consumer model, sustainable, stylish furniture like the best-selling Eclipse Sleeper Sofa (an editor-favorite for small spaces!) runs in the same price range as other high-quality brands. It’s furniture you can feel really good about!

Burrow

Burrow has been a long-time Apartment Therapy favorite for their incredible customizable sofas and sectionals, and that love only grew once the DTC brand expanded into rugs, bedroom furniture, and accent chairs. They also have sophisticated storage solutions like wall shelves, bookcases, and credenzas to keep all of your belongings stylishly tucked away or on display. A personal favorite? The Span sleeper sofa. It’s a game-changer in small apartments and folds out into a queen-size bed with ease. Don’t want a full sleeper sofa? No problem. Burrow’s Sleep Kits instantly transform their chic sofas into a cozy bed for guests to enjoy. That forward thinking is what makes this brand an AT-favorite time and time again.

Edloe Finch

When it first arrived on the scene, Edloe Finch was already in good company. While its sister brand Albany Park has comfy sofas and chairs, Edloe Finch stocks those categories and more, like coffee tables and accent chairs. You can shop by room or by furniture type, and you’ll come across trendy pieces wherever you look. Like the stylish Leif Platform Bed, which features a sleek, extended ledge to perch your phone or a book.

Castlery

The downside to some DTC brands is that often their inventory isn’t very big. That’s not the case with Castlery, which sells a huge range of furniture for every room in your home, including the living room, dining room, bedroom, home office, and even entryway. All their pieces are made by a global community of designers utilizing top materials and quality craftsmanship, giving you truly unique pieces that are guaranteed to elevate your home. A perfect example is the iconic Hugg nesting coffee table, which includes two comfy ottomans that tuck seamlessly under its sleek, pill-shaped surface. Read our full review!

Hem

If the only Swedish furniture brand you know is IKEA, allow us to introduce you to Hem. Their main goal is to offer exceptional, character-filled pieces created by “the most relevant designers of today,” and they most certainly deliver. From rounded, contemporary sofas to gorgeous lamps and playful poufs like the Boa, they’ve got pieces that add to your home’s story — and style.

Outer

As one of the newer outdoor furniture brands on the market, AAPI-founded Outercreates durable, sustainable, and design-forward pieces that elevate even the most average backyard space into something that’s truly resort-worthy. Along with weather-resistant aluminum furniture, the brand has wicker styles, dining sets, outdoor rugs, fire pits, and even a Bug Shield Blanket that repels mosquitoes and other pests so you can get the most out of your time outside. And this Teak Conversation Set is at the top of our list — it gives any outdoor space (big or small) instant hotel energy!

Inside Weather

Modern, personal, and accessible — that’s how Inside Weather wants furniture shopping to be. All of their furniture is customizable and made to order, so when you get a piece from them, you know it’s truly yours. You can personalize pretty much every aspect of any piece. For example, for this stylish two-seater sofa, you pick the wood finish, upholstery materials, and color, and the cushion fill for fully customizable comfort. Because the products are made to order, you don’t have to worry about all the expenses associated with extra material, warehouse costs, and middlemen. That means you get made-for-you pieces at made-for-everyone prices.

Maiden Home

Maiden Home has high standards for your home, and they’ve tasked themselves with helping you achieve them without the high price tag. Their goal is to bring showroom-quality pieces directly to consumers at a fraction of the price. All pieces are handmade in North Carolina by craftspeople who have decades of experience (you can read about each of them on the website), so you know you’re getting exceptional pieces made with care. Whether you’re in the market for a mid-century armchair or a coffee table-ottoman hybrid, Maiden Home has a piece you’ll be proud to display in your home for years to come.

Albany Park

Though the reasoning behind it is up for debate, it’s common knowledge that furniture companies can take weeks, or even months, to fulfill sofa orders. At times, the issue is caused by shipping delays or a lengthy production period for customization. However, Black-owned business Albany Park is out to change things. This modern DTC brand creates chic and cozy furniture, ranging from stylish sectionals to ottomans, in a variety of colors, fabrics, and patterns. One editor-favorite pick is the Kova Sofa, a small-space-friendly modular sectional that’s available in multiple sizes and can be transported easily if (or when) you move. Best of all, Albany Park ships within a week, so you aren’t left wondering how long it’ll be before your new furniture arrives.

Mustard Made

If you love color, look no further than Mustard Made. This DTC brand makes vibrant lockers that are available in practically every color of the rainbow, and come in a variety of styles to fit homes of all sizes. A locker might not be the first option that comes to mind when you think about home storage solutions, but you’ll rethink that once you see what Mustard Made has to offer. Their Midi Locker is perfect for the home office or a playroom while The Twinny can add to your closet space or even act as a closet if you don’t have one. There’s also the Lowdown that could easily be a bar cabinet or TV console, respectively. And yes, they come with a key to lock them! Aside from their Instagram-worthy lockers, Mustard Made also has matching accessories so you can color block or color code to your heart’s content with baskets, hangers, and additional shelving. They even have magnetic letters to decorate the lockers with, making them totally customizable to your personality.

Thuma

Another social media favorite, Thuma creates modern Japanese-inspired furniture that’s renter-friendly and drill-free. The Bed and The Nightstand are already AT-favorites, scoring high praise for their ease of assembly and high-grade style. The brand also thinks ahead with accessories that pair seamlessly with the furniture to make your time relaxing at home as effortless as it should be.

Benchmade Modern

For customizable luxury furniture that ships in as little as two weeks, Benchmade Modern is the place to go. You won’t believe how many options they have from furniture styles to the fabrics and colors available to pick from! After picking out a sofa, you’ll be prompted to select its width, fabric and color, cushion fill, and legs, making it your ideal style from top to bottom. While that might sound intimidating, you can get the entire process started by requesting free swatches to get a taste of the color and feel while you browse the furniture on their site. Additionally, Benchmade Modern sends you a free to-scale printout of your sofa so that you can see how it will fit into your space before it arrives, just in case you need to make any changes.

Floyd

If you’ve spent any time on Instagram, you’re probably at least a little familiar with Floyd’s bed frame or sofa. This DTC brand has sleek and stylish furniture that you can customize to fit your space. While their bedroom and living room furniture has gotten a lot of shine, Floyd also has functional storage units, bookshelves, and they even make a mattress, too! If you’ve been curious about this brand, you’ll be happy to know that their storage platform bed frame lives up to the hype, but that’s not the only pick that’s become popular with AT editors. The Sectional is another favorite because it’s pet-friendly and modular, meaning it can be as space-saving or expansive as you’d like it to be.
