A design enthusiast might say Margot Tenenbaum owes her playwright success to the zebra wallpaper splashed on her childhood walls in “The Royal Tenenbaums.” If your head is nodding in agreement, then you’ll be pleased to hear Scalamandre has teamed up with The Inside to make us all acclaimed playwrights—er, I mean, make the print available on a wide range of furniture.

Starting today, the iconic design brand is selling 15 of its fabrics on The Inside’s website in various furnished forms. In a press release, President of Scalamandre Chad Stark said the collaboration is allowing their business to expand to digital consumers more than ever before. “By rescaling and recoloring a selection of iconic patterns, we’ve crafted an assortment that complements our trade-only offering and showcases our 90 year-old heritage brand to the digital marketplace.”

Shoppers can skim the site for an array of major furniture staples in their choice of pattern and color, including square throw pillows, tuxedo chairs, and modern wingback beds. So yes, you can deck your entire room in coral zebra if you so desire!

But Zebra isn’t the only fabric available. If you’re gravitating toward more of a floral vibe, there’s the Lanai that projects the blossoming tropics. The Baldwin Bamboo has a geometric, symmetrical pattern to do the job. And, of course, there are the animal prints Scalamandre is notorious for—including their brand new pattern, the Cheetah.

While minimalism has been trending for awhile, now we’ve been seeing the desire to move away from stark, pared down design. The research we conducted for Apartment Therapy’s first-ever Pattern of the Year, the New Animal Print, shows that bold patterns are back in a big way. In our POTY announcement, Apartment Therapy’s design editor Bridget Mallon wrote:

“2018 was marked by an array of maximalist, even whimsical trends, from terrazzo, to patterns featuring body part after body part, to curvy furniture that calls back to the Art Deco era. Don’t worry, Scandi simplicity isn’t going anywhere, it’s just not the be all end all anymore.”

Maybe The Inside x Scalamandre collaboration is too a sign that maximalist design is making a comeback. To celebrate the extreme trend seen in the Scalamandre now-buyable patterns as well as within our own POTY, we’ve pulled our top favorite looks that are now available for purchase on The Inside. Happy shopping!
