Tara Salas, the DIYer behind The Doer and the Dreamer, understands that the quest for perfection can sometimes get wrapped up in the reality of the job. So when she had the idea to install screw caps on her peg rack, it was as if she figured out how to sidestep a common unsightly, yet necessary detail: screw heads. “I’ve seen the concept of screw caps used on many projects, such as doorknobs or shelving brackets,” she says. “I was in need of a sturdy way to secure a peg rack directly into the studs, but I didn’t want the ends of the screws exposed.”

Salas found her gold screw caps on Amazon (these are similar), and she notes that there are numerous options for various sizes and colors. Once the caps arrived on her doorstep, though, she realized she had another problem. “I wasn’t able to use the screws that came with the screw caps,” she says. “But it was easy to find a screw at the length I needed that was also compatible with the screw caps.” With the right size in hand, she attached the rack to the wall, and then secured the caps over the screws with a few simple twists. The end result is a rustic, versatile storage piece that leaves no detail overlooked.

“Having the option to use these screw caps allows me to simplify some projects and get more creative with how to use them,” Salas says. “I’m already coming up with more ideas!”
