Now that I’ve moved states once, I have a much better idea of what I would bring with me if I were to do it again. When looking back on my move to New York City a couple of years ago, I ask myself what I was thinking when I made the decision to bring, for instance, a stack of old magazines and a heavy throw blanket. But perhaps the most ridiculous thing I stuffed into my suitcase was my big cotton bathrobe. Not only was this silly because bath linens are available for purchase literally everywhere, but also because that robe felt heavier than my magazines and blanket combined. As a result, it took forever to dry — especially when I hung it in my tiny, fanless bathroom.

A few months after my move, I was horrified to find a few mold spores on the collar. As you can imagine, this was the final straw that led me to finally get rid of the robe and opt for something quick-drying. The American Cleaning Institute actually recommends washing your bath towels every two to three days, as they tend to grow microbes such as mold and yeast if left damp for too long. If you’re not able to do laundry that frequently, though, towels that dry quickly are a great alternative, as they give that bacteria far less opportunity to flourish than slow-drying towels.

Luckily, my search for a quick-drying bathrobe didn’t take long because Silk & Snow sent me its terry bathrobe. Although it’s made of 100% cotton like my old robe, the material on this one feels completely different — in a good way. One year later, it’s still one of the best lifestyle upgrades I’ve made.

What Is the Terry Bathrobe?

Silk & Snow’s terry bathrobe is available in three sizes and four colors, although I just own the classic white. It’s knee-length and thus shorter than your typical long bathrobe, and it’s made from 100% Egyptian cotton. Unlike my old robe, which was heavy and had short fibers, Silk & Snow’s terry robe has longer cotton fibers, which results in a plush feel. It’s also surprisingly light; when I lift it off of its hook, it feels no different than taking one of my cardigans off its hanger.

What’s more, the robe is machine-washable. It’s recommended that you wash it in cold water on a gentle cycle, which is what I do. It does get the occasional makeup stain, so if I feel the wash needs a bit of extra stain-fighting power, I throw in some OxiClean, and the robe always comes out as white as the day I got it. The product page also says to hang-dry the robe. If I’m being honest, I’ve found that letting the robe air-dry after washing takes too long — basically a full 12 hours. As a result, I always throw the robe in the dryer, along with some wool dryer balls. It comes out warm, fluffy, and spotless every time.

Why I Love the Terry Bathrobe

Although this bathrobe takes a long time to air-dry after being washed, it dries fast after I use it (which is every day). It’s plush, fluffy, and soft, but it’s not thick. Instead, the robe has an airy feel, so it absorbs water and also allows it to evaporate quickly. In addition to its material, the robe is also perfect in terms of silhouette. The fact that it’s knee-length means the robe is suitable for every season — especially spring and summer.

Even when I lounge in it for half an hour after showering, I don’t overheat or otherwise feel discomfort. My old robe was full-length, so during the hotter months I felt like I was drowning in it and couldn’t wait to get it off of my body. This one is totally fuss-free — especially when I take into account details like its belt and side pockets, which come in handy for hair ties and claw clips.

I will note, though, that the robe’s fibers have started unraveling here and there within the past couple of months, so I’d say for a full year it remained in perfect condition. But I just clip the stragglers with scissors, and all is well again. Aside from that tiny issue, I love my robe — and I think its shawl collar and cozy cotton are not only comfortable and practical, but also stylish. If you’re ready to replace your old bath towel, give this one a try while it’s discounted to $68. I’m sure you’ll love it as much as I do.
