Welcome to Kate’s light-filled, colorful home in New York’s West Village. This small-ish apartment is home to Kate and her Cavalier King Charles spaniel, Lady, and also serves as her office (she works from home). Taking a cue from the space’s bright, almost ethereal vibe, she’s created a home that feels light and airy and restful — the perfect place to work and play.

Kate’s also one of the stars of the latest episode of Apartment Therapy’s new video series, the A Line, where neighbors with identical floor plans show us their very different approaches to life at home. In the video we compare Kate’s place with that of her neighbor Brett, whose house tour is coming soon.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: Barely constrained enthusiasm

Inspiration: Brick buildings with stone accents.

Favorite Element: Sunshine!!

Biggest Challenge: I’ve always had dark furniture and accents: mahogany, oxblood, navy and gold — at my offices and at home. This was the first opportunity to make a clean departure. The challenge is capturing the ethereal aspects of a building without losing warmth.

What Friends Say: “Oh! I like the red.”

Biggest Embarrassment: City dog paws. There is no way to keep city gunk out of the house. NYC has won this battle…

Proudest DIY: Built and wired the chandelier.

Biggest Indulgence: Laundry in the apartment! It keeps the fur balls under control and helps me keep the apartment feeling clean.

Best Advice: When in doubt, throw it out. Better yet, don’t buy it to begin with. A handful of awesome beats a barrel of okay.

PAINT & COLORS

• The silver (in the bedroom) is a metallic from Modern Masters Metallic Paint Collection and MUST be painted on with a foam roller. I tried a very slight nap roller because I already had it and I was trying to paint in the middle of the night and it failed miserably. Actually read the instructions if you’re using metallic paint. Also, there is a legit 24-hour hardware store in Manhattan. No excuse not to do it right.
