This Multi-Purpose Nightstand Is My Favorite Small/Cool Accessory
When it comes to great design, big things come in small packages. Take the nightstand in my bedroom, for example.
When my boyfriend and I moved into our San Francisco apartment almost two years ago, I was determined to make every nook and cranny of our space as homey as possible. After four years of dating — and two spent long-distance — our apartment was the very first home we shared together. So, I wanted to make our space conducive to both of our lifestyles — right down to my boyfriend filling up a large water bottle before bed, and me watching Netflix on my phone when I can’t fall asleep. (I know, not the best habit, but that’s for another story.)
You’d think finding a bedroom nightstand would be a piece of cake. But, in true design enthusiast fashion, I had an oddly specific wish list. I wanted something that matched our light gray dresser, was slim enough to fit between our bed and the wall, and had somewhere to charge our phones. After spending an ungodly amount of time scouring the web, I learned that perfection does exist—and it’s called Andover Mills’ Lundgren End Table.
At first glance, the Lundgren End Table looks like any other nightstand. There’s a single drawer that’s perfect for storing nighttime essentials and important papers, plus a lower shelf that’s great for piling all the books I want to read. But, in my opinion, the magic lies in what you can’t see so easily.
Toward the back of the nightstand is a hidden storage compartment that has not one, but two USB ports. (Translation? Not only do I have somewhere to charge my phone so it doesn’t lose its juice during my late-night binge-watching, but I also have somewhere to charge my Bluetooth headphones.) And, since it also has two traditional outlets, I have somewhere to plug in a table lamp. After all, very few things are less soothing than having a harsh overhead light in your bedroom.
Another cool thing about this nightstand? There’s a discreet sliding shelf that offers a sturdy place to rest a cup of coffee or, in this case, my boyfriend’s gigantic water bottle . All of this for under $200 a pop? I instantly bought two — and I’ve never looked back.
Assembling this nightstand was a breeze, too. (In fact, my boyfriend and I turned it into a friendly competition to see who could build theirs first.) Plus, I love how they look on each side of our bed decked out with brass lamps from World Market.
But, the best part about this nightstand is its size. At 13 inches wide and 22 inches deep, this option has plenty of room to hold all of our stuff without making our bedroom feel cluttered. If that’s no the definition of Small/Cool, what is?
