The Halloween Costumes That Are Taking Over 2025 (Some Are Already Selling Out!)
Unlike Thanksgiving and Easter, Halloween comes on the same day every year — yet it always manages to sneak up on me. Every year I pledge to be more on top of my costume planning and general home transition to fall, but I somehow find myself scrambling in late October to put something, anything together. Fortunately Spirit Halloween has identified some of the biggest Halloween costume trends of 2025 to help me (and you!) get inspired — and, hopefully, stay on schedule.
The Top 2025 Halloween Costume Trends
Below you’ll find the top five Halloween costume trends of the year, according to Spirit Halloween. See here to read the full report.
Superheroes.
Caped crusaders and masked marvels have lit up our screens and comic books for decades, with no signs of slowing down. This year, Superman, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Thunderbolts*, Ironheart, Peacemaker, Daredevil: Born Again, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man all hit the big and small screens, and that’s just a small sampling. Naturally, these characters will be making plenty of appearances come October 31.
The sky-blue Fantastic Four jumpsuits at Spirit are a nice alternative to Halloween’s dark, bloody aesthetic, and they look pretty comfy too. If you’re a Spider-Fan, you have options like Ghost Spider and Miles Morales. There are also classics like Superman and Harley Quinn, as well as John Cena’s Peacemaker, which isn’t as big of a household name but could earn you originality points.
TV characters.
One of the easiest ways to brainstorm for Halloween is thinking about your favorite TV shows. I’m sure you already know how many shows there are to choose from, but some of the biggest TV-inspired costumes are likely to be from hits like Squid Game and Wednesday. Whether you’re into Wednesday’s dance dress, Morticia’s elegant bell sleeves, Young Hee the doll, or the contestants’ bright teal jumpsuits, you’ve got options. You can even dress your dog up as Wednesday Addams if you want.
Cartoons.
If you’re a perfectionist, it might feel a bit challenging to perfectly replicate your favorite movie or TV character for Halloween. But if they happen to be a cartoon character, a whole new world of creativity opens up. Hair can be a wig, but it can also be painted cardboard. Wear an elaborate outfit, or simply put on a hoodie with ears.
If that’s still daunting, Spirit has plenty of popular picks, including Plankton from Spongebob, Stitch from Lilo & Stitch, Fortnite’s Peely Bone, and Cartman from South Park.
KPop Demon Hunters.
Yes, the Netflix movie KPop Demon Hunters is technically a cartoon as well, but it’s also a serious smash hit. When you’re the “most popular Netflix film ever,” you deserve your own section. Dressing up as your favorite member of HUNTR/X is a lot easier than slaying demons or belting high notes — especially because Spirit Halloween is the only place to find officially licensed costumes from the movie.
Unfortunately it appears that the outfits are sold out online for the time being, but you can snag a branded shirt while you wait for a restock and/or brainstorm your best DIY Zoey, Mira, Rumi, or Saja Boys.
Wicked.
Last year it was almost impossible to escape the Wicked movie press cycle. At a certain point I was practically dreaming in pink and green, and as a former (well, maybe not so former) musical theater obsessive, that was A-OK with me. Wicked: For Good, the second half of the buzzy movie musical directed by John M. Chu, hits theaters on November 21, so Halloween is actually a very appropriate time to start celebrating all things Oz.
Spirit Halloween has a variety of Wicked costumes, like the classic pink Glinda dress and black Elphaba frock and even their school uniforms and robes, if you want to switch things up. If your friends have already claimed the iconic duo, make it a group costume and tag along with a Shiz University blazer getup.
