I moved into this studio apartment in Silver Lake, CA about a year and a half ago after some very tough years financially. My friend was moving to the Bay Area with her now soon to be husband so I was able to get the apartment before it went on the market. I figured that since she had so many great life experiences in this place that maybe some of those positive vibes would stick around in the space.

I still didn’t have much of a budget but I wanted to make this place somewhere that I liked coming home to despite its small size. I scoured Craigslist for some great finds and put in a lot of nights and weekends on DIY projects – repainting the entire apartment (which turned out to be more difficult than it sounds thanks to paint that peeled off the wall in large chunks in every room in the place), building a breakfast bar/office area, shelves in the bathroom, etc.

Now when I come home I appreciate all the hard work that went into the space to make it my own. It’s still very much a work in progress but it’s now my happy place!
