Whether you have a dishwasher that you rely on heavily, or you hand-wash your dishes every day, there’s no getting around the fact that you’ll need to keep certain dishwashing essentials on hand. In my household, we hand-wash our dishes, so we have a drying rack on the counter next to the sink, and we store the dish soap and sponge next to the faucet for easy access. Of course, we usually tuck these items away when company’s coming over, but most of the time they’re in a highly visible spot in the kitchen.

Being a person who is sensitive to visual clutter, the sight of these unattractive objects would persistently irk me. I already disliked the daily chore of washing dishes, so having to use aesthetically unappealing items certainly did not make me enjoy it more. Suddenly, it dawned on me there’s no reason these utilitarian items can’t be just as stylish as the rest of my home decor or spark some measure of delight, and I immediately jumped on Amazon in search of prettier (but not too expensive) replacements.

Here are three eye-pleasing products I found that have elevated my dishwashing station and have also made the task of washing my dishes feel like less of a drag.

Navaris Dish Drainer Rack

The drying rack I had previously was one of those cheap wire ones that you can snag for $10 at most big-box stores. It didn’t even come with a drip tray, so I was using a fabric drying mat underneath it, which tended to get musty every week. The fact that rust had started to build up in various spots only heightened my aversion to it. EnterL the Navaris Dish Drainer Rack. Its modern design featuring a sleek metal rack with a plastic drip tray offers a much more fetching spot to dry my dishes. I opted for the white color to blend in with my counters, but it also comes in two other colorways: black or gray. It’s large enough to hold dishes as well as pots and pans, and the wooden handles made out of real beechwood add a stylish element.

SUBEKYU Bamboo Dish Scrub Brush

I’m not a fan of brightly colored sponges in the kitchen, so I usually opted for brown eco-friendly sponges made from plant-based fibers. They worked fine for my everyday dishwashing needs, but, as with most sponges, they would develop an unappealing odor after about a week of use. Not to mention, they’d fall apart easily if I had to do any kind of rigorous scrubbing. I decided it was time for a serious upgrade and ordered the SUBEKYU Bamboo Dish Scrub Brush. With bristles that are made of sisal and a bamboo wooden handle, I appreciate that the entire brush is compostable. It’s become a stalwart tool in my kitchen, as it’s strong enough to scrub the burned bits off pots and pans, but it’s also gentle enough to clean my regular dishes and silverware. The little ceramic dish it comes with collects water droplets while it dries and looks chic doing it.

Durmmur White Soap Dispenser

Because washing the dishes is an unavoidable part of the everyday grind, I like to infuse a bit of joy into the ritual by choosing a dish soap scent that I find to be pleasing. My absolute favorite one smells like a citrus grove with lovely notes of clementines. The problem is the packaging — there’s lots of busy text on the bottle. It’s also see-through, allowing the bright orange-colored soap to stick out rather prominently at the back of my sink. By ordering this soap dispenser, and decanting my dish soap into it, I am still able to enjoy my favorite fragrance while sudsing up, and the garish soap color is hidden behind a beautiful white powder-coated glass bottle. The best part is the gold metal pump that makes it easy to dispense my dish soap and adds a luxe quality to my sink area.
