Target is rolling out its holiday decor, and one item that’s already stealing the show is a wooden box that’s designed to look like a classic Christmas book — but inside there are compartments for storing wrapped candies, or any other trinkets you may want to hide away. Plus, you get style and storage for a super-cheap price tag.

Target’s $5 Storage Boxes Look Like Classic Christmas Books
These Target boxes may be made of wood, but they’re styled to look like antique book safes, which are made with actual books that have their pages glued together and then hollowed out. Historically, these secret hiding spots, which were also sometimes called smugglers’ bibles, were used to conceal contraband — from backgammon games in 16th-century England, to liquor bottles in 20th-century America.
Nowadays book safes are a common piece of decor that are made from other materials, like these wooden ones from Target, rather than being made from actual books. You can use them to store television remotes, jewelry, or unsightly items (like phone chargers and keys) that don’t have a designated home.
