From Pizza Hut to Pinterest — Tavern Lights Are Back

It’s no secret that Tiffany-style lamps have made a somewhat surprising design comeback. They first started popping up at flea markets and antique stores, with their eye-catching stained glass facets and leaded designs capturing the attention of a whole new generation of lighting and vintage decor lovers. Now it’s not unheard of to see more modern versions at your favorite online home stores, too.

Turns out, Tiffany lamps are paving the way for broader stained glass lighting appreciation. With homeowners and renters alike rediscovering the warmth and charm of stained glass, another nostalgic fixture is poised to step back into the spotlight: tavern-style stained glass pendants, once synonymous with chain restaurants like Pizza Hut, dive bars, ’70s dining areas, and pool halls. 

Think of Pizza Hut-style tavern and pub lights as Tiffany lamps’ cooler, younger cousin: These pieces share the same stained-glass DNA, but their stripped-down design motifs feel less precious and more nostalgic. Bold stripes and colorblocking, diamond-shaped detailing, and grid-like patterns offer surprisingly versatile overhead solutions for modern interiors, where Tiffany florals and pastoral scenes lean more ornate and Art Nouveau. Simplifying their color palettes down to two to four shades also makes tavern lights feel fresher and easier to incorporate into 2026 design schemes. I’m noticing these pieces are starting to be more widely available at flea markets, estate sales, and in vintage resellers’ collections. So they’re poised to become ironically cool — especially for their relative affordability in the secondhand market. 

Take beloved food personality Dan Pelosi and his colorful Hudson Valley home as an example, where his collection for Ruggable was shot earlier this year. Pelosi told Domino that many of the vintage lights were sourced by his designer, Nick Spain, because they looked like what hung over Pelosi’s childhood dinner tables. Set against bold patterns, bright colors, and whimsical accents, though, these pieces feel unexpected and surprisingly stylish.
