Tesla Will Build a Supercharger Drive-In Theater and Diner in Los Angeles
Tesla drivers in Los Angeles will soon be able to supercharge their cars while grabbing a quick bite or watching a movie. The electric car company reportedly filed plans to build a supercharger diner/drive-in location on Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood, pairing the high tech brand with a retro concept.
The company originally planned to build the diner and drive-in location in the city of Santa Monica, but moved their plans to Hollywood. Tesla did, however, install a supercharger at the old Santa Monica site in February, but there are no added attractions.
According to Electrek, the new Tesla supercharger station will replace the Shakey’s Pizza Parlor currently at the site. It will be a two-story diner with the first floor housing the kitchen, both an indoor and outdoor bar, and several booths, and the second floor will feature outdoor restaurant seating as well as theater-style seating that looks out into the parking lot equipped with 29 supercharger stalls and five low-speed chargers.
The parking lot will also feature two screens that are visible from the rooftop area as well as the cars in the lot, giving visitors that drive-in experience.
The films shown at the theater will only be about 30 minutes long, as that’s how long it takes to supercharge a car.
Tesla asked the city to allow the site to be open 24 hours a day, but because the plans are still in the permitting phase, things could change based on city regulations. The fact that the planned site is located on the historic Route 66 could make it a big draw for both electric car owners and tourists alike.
