A $19 Linen Box from the Container Store Became the Ultimate TV Tech Storage
Open shelving, IMO, highlights peak organization and sophistication, and the ability to stylishly pare items down to create a visually appealing-yet-functional display. However, incorporating technology without disrupting that look can be tricky. Nataliya Gerasimova of Mova Interiors made it look easy.
Nataliya’s organic modern Washington living room is minimal and neutral, making it feel peaceful. The room’s tranquil nature is further emphasized by television technology that’s almost invisible. Or so it seems.
A $19 Shoe Box from the Container Store Hides Tech Accessories
Nataliya’s living room has a clear color palette, including white, beige, soft grays, and natural light wood. However, the Samsung Frame TV’s One Connect Box was disrupting that scheme with its “dark finish.” She set out to find a decorative box to conceal it, but struggled to find the right size to fit on the shelf. Nataliya didn’t want the shelves to be covered with items, but wanted them to feel “intentional.”
“After searching for a while, I decided to visit The Container Store in person to see if I could find something that might work,” Nataliya says. “I looked through their baskets and storage options without much luck, but as I was passing through the shoe-box aisle, I noticed this linen-textured box. The proportions looked promising, and luckily, it turned out to be just the right size!”
Although It’s a Shoe Box, It’s Perfect for Hiding Tech, Too
Nataliya appreciates finding the shoe box because she didn’t have to sacrifice or compromise on style, noting that it doesn’t look like a “workaround” but rather as though it was intended for this job. “The linen-like texture gives it the appearance of a decorative object rather than a piece of tech storage, allowing it to blend into the overall styling,” Nataliya explains. “A good reminder that you don’t always have to look for an item according to its intended purpose. Sometimes, an unexpected object can solve a design problem better than something specifically marketed for it.”
This tech storage solution is a reminder to consider unexpected options when looking for an item. Although it was initially designed for shoe storage, it worked perfectly in this case. To see more of Nataliya’s wonderful home, visit the full House Tour.
