File this one under styling tips you might not need but perhaps could find useful, particularly if you live in a small space. To elaborate, lately, I’ve been a little less all about my throw blankets because, well, summer heat. I still reach for one from time to time when I’m watching movies on my sofa, but the heavier style on my bed is just not something I need in my life right now.

If I had a lot of storage space in my home, I’d roll it up and stash it in a basket — or in an under-bed bin or in my closet — but I’ve pretty much crammed as much as I can into every nook and cranny in my smallish New York City apartment. That’s where this tip comes in: Instead of packing away my bed throw or keeping it folded at the end of my bed for the summer season, I’ve opted to hang it over my headboard for the foreseeable future.

This move may seem obvious, but it’s genius for a few reasons. I’ve had my current World Market headboard for a few years now, and while it’s held up pretty well, I love being able to quick change furnishings with textiles. Why not extend this concept to my bedroom with the headboard? Also, placing my throw here means it’s hidden in plain sight, so I don’t have to bury it in the depths of a closet or drawer, where I’m likely to forget about its whereabouts. Lastly, I don’t have to buy yet another organizational solution that takes up precious floorspace.

I love a good bin or rack as much as the next person, but when you’re trying to cut down on visual clutter, sometimes the solution isn’t introducing new storage pieces. You can splay your throw across the entire headboard, as shown in the image above, or fold your throw and use it to jazz up one corner of your headboard (like you would display one on a chair or sofa back). Again, I like options, and maybe you do, too.

I could leave my throw at the foot of my bed all year long, sure, but the headboard spot is a welcome change for the warmer months, both practically and aesthetically speaking.
