This TikToker Created a Functional Laundry Area That’s Hidden in Plain Sight

TikTok user and DIY expert Julie Sousa has come up with a brilliant hack that camouflages her laundry hamper, turning an otherwise unsightly part of the house into an elegant nook. In her video, which was posted last month, Sousa shows the area before the renovation.

“This cannot look like a dedicated laundry space because it’s out in the open,” she said, talking about the hamper in the middle of the hallway, plus the exposed power panel.

To fix this, she first painted the walls with black and dark green paint, before adding pole wrap from Home Depot. Then, she added shelves that would serve as a surface to fold laundry and as a place to conceal her hampers. As for the hampers, she brought in Marie Kondo’s shoji containers, which look more like decorative pieces than laundry bins. To complete the space, she added a painting, lighting, and some plants and vases.

The result is a nook that you’ll never mistake for a dedicated laundry area. “I am OBSESSED with this idea,” said one commenter, while paint company Benjamin Moore added: “Such a great idea!!”
