In a new study, Rated People analyzed more than 800,000 home improvement jobs to uncover the 20 biggest home improvement trends in 2022. The researchers then interviewed more than 2,000 potential property buyers, revealing how much extra they’d pay for a property if it had each of the tops trends.

Outdoor kitchens are a staple this summer. It doesn’t have to be a huge kitchen set-up—small balcony areas have enough room for a grill—but outdoor kitchens can add $6,800 to a home’s value. Plus, they’re a popular pick among TikTokers, with the tag #outdoorkitchen having over 125 million views to date.

According to the study, “living walls” can increase a home’s value by an average of $6,308. DIY content creator @lexi.diy shared a genius hack for creating a faux plant wall on a budget, while @benmakesbits added a plant frame to a wall mirror.

The tag #greenkitchen has 55 million views on TikTok, and according to survey respondents, adding a lick of green paint to your space can increase your home’s value by $6,406.
