The January Cure is a long-standing Apartment Therapy tradition, helping you clean and declutter your home for the year ahead. We tackle one assignment each weekday throughout the entire month. It’s not too late to sign up and join (it’s free!).

Each time you pencil something into your calendar—a work meeting or a birthday celebration or the release date for a film you’re dying to watch—you’re essentially saying one thing: “This is a priority for me, and I want to be sure I remember and make time for it.”

If your home is a priority for you, you need to make time for it too. Precise time. There’s a difference between saying to yourself, “oh maybe I’ll do that this weekend” and writing it down in your calendar on a specific day and hour. So go ahead and jot all your small household to-dos—tightening a drawer pull or repainting a nightstand—on your calendar right next to the important calls and dinner invitations. These little efforts are just as valuable and worthy of your time and focus.

That’s your lesson for today. And here’s how this all wraps back around to our January Cure program: Today is a day that we’ve set aside just to give you some dedicated time to work on the project that you selected last week.

Today’s Assignment: Work on your chosen project.

Spend some time tonight on your selected Cure project and move it forward, or even complete it, if possible. If not, don’t worry, just do what you can today—it doesn’t need to be finished, just worked on.

If you can’t dig in on the project itself, what can you do to get it going? Do you need to order supplies? Make some phone calls? Ask for quotes? Book appointments? Figure out what will move you forward on your goal and jump in.

If you’ve already finished your project (congratulations! please brag about it in the comments or our Facebook group), you can use today to catch up on anything else you feel behind on. Or if you’re feeling good about your progress, enjoy a well-earned day off.
