If you’ve been paying close attention on Instagram these past few months, you’ve probably spotted Ettore Sottsass’ Ultrafragola Mirror—everywhere. In case you’re unfamiliar, we’re talking that wavy, light-up, statement-making Memphis design mirror that everyone wants but only a few can afford or get their hands on. The now iconic mirror was designed in 1970 and has graced the homes of Karl Lagerfeld, Bella Hadid, Sophia Amoruso, and Frank Ocean. It has also recently has been popping up in retail hotspots like La Ligne and Kate Spade in New York City.

Designer Hillary Matt, who used the mirror in a holiday show house recently, as seen above, thinks the Ultrafragola Mirror is buzzy because it’s truly a functional piece of art. “It is the perfect mirror to funk up a space, whether the pink light is on or not,” says Matt. Designer Ariel Okin, who used the mirror in Lena Dunham’s New York City apartment, thinks its popularity has something to do with it being, well, kind of extra.

“After years of stark minimalism, the Ultrafragola Mirror is the ultimate ode to maximalism—loud, punchy, and neon to boot,” says Okin. “It’s fun, sinewy lines are perfect for a statement piece that grabs the eye and sparks conversation.” So how much will this funky, Instagram darling of a selfie mirror set you back?  Oh, just a casual $7,000 to $10,000. That’s why we set out to find pretty budget options that won’t leave you bankrupt. Here goes nothing.
