My bathroom is one of the few places in my home where I can get some actual alone time. As a result, I do my best to make it feel as luxurious as possible for a space that isn’t much wider than a closet. I upgraded my decades-old showerhead to a modern filtered shower system, added a variety of Target storage bins under the cabinet to clear countertop clutter, and stored my perfumes and makeup in a chic organizer that doubles as decor.

Because a new toilet was being installed in my bathroom already, it seemed like the perfect time to elevate the space with a bidet I’ve had my eye on: the Tushy Wave. To be honest, I started shopping around for bidets years ago, but got discouraged after seeing that so many required an outlet near the toilet. So, when I learned that the Wave didn’t need to be plugged in and wouldn’t take up any more of my valuable bathroom space, I had to try it for myself.

Quick Overview

A Quick Look at the Tushy Wave

  • Non-electric bidet toilet seat with elongated and round shape options
  • Easy-turn knob — in bamboo or platinum — with customizable water pressure
  • DuoFlow Nozzle for front and back wash as well as a slow-close lid
  • Includes installation kit with flexible hose and instruction manual
  • Equipped with quick-release button for toilet seat removal before deep cleaning
  • Compatible with 95% of American toilets
  • One-year limited warranty

Design Features That Stand Out

The sleek Tushy Wave is one of the latest offerings in the brand’s line of bidets, and it’s just as renter-friendly as the bestselling Tushy Classic. There are options available for both elongated and round toilets, measuring 19.4″ x 14.7″ x 2.6″ and 18.5″ x 14.7″ x 2.6″ respectively. Rather than needing a power outlet near your toilet, the Wave uses your existing water line to power the bidet seat, and still allows you to control the water pressure for comfort. Its DuoFlow Nozzle system is made up of two self-cleaning sprayers (for the front and for the back) that tuck away into a special compartment at the back of the seat when not in use.

This non-electric bidet seat is controlled with a knob on its right side that you can order in a boho bamboo or modern platinum. It also clicks when you turn it on and off, so your water isn’t constantly left running. Although the Tushy Wave has self-cleaning elements, you’ll want to clean it as part of your bathroom cleaning routine just like a standard toilet. However, when it’s time to give your bidet seat an extra-deep clean, there’s a quick-release button on the left side that frees the seat from the screwed-on base.

How It Performed

As a bidet first-timer, I didn’t fully know what to expect from the Tushy Wave. I understood all the basic functions, but the controls and placement were totally new concepts to me. Fortunately, Tushy sends a helpful mounting template in the installation kit that you place on your toilet, so you know exactly where the base plate should be positioned and how the seat should fit. The instructions were easy to follow and I didn’t experience any leaks once all was said and done, which was a huge plus, as we had a water line problem with my previous toilet.

As far as using the Tushy Wave, it didn’t take long for me to realize I had nothing to worry about. Outside of how much pressure to use, operating the bidet toilet seat is pretty intuitive. Although Tushy recommends using a dedicated Bum Towel for a truly waste-free experience, I still use toilet paper. That being said, I’ve found that the Wave is so effective that I go through a lot less toilet paper, which means my stock lasts longer and I get to save money on refills. Personally, I use the Tushy Wave along with the Arc toilet stool and the pair makes my bathroom feel next-level complete.

What I Loved

  • All-in-one design, with no outlet required: Although I’ve wanted a bidet for years, I’d just about scrapped the idea because so many needed a nearby outlet. I also wasn’t a fan of the bidet attachments, as my bathrooms have historically been so tiny. I love that the Tushy Wave doesn’t extend any farther than the toilet I already own and uses the water line that’s already in my home. Best of all, it doesn’t have to be plugged into an outlet.
  • Nozzle guard: One of the first things I think about when adding any new appliances or furnishings to my home is how easy they’ll be to keep clean. The Wave’s nozzle guard keeps the spray nozzles neatly hidden between uses, protecting the pieces in their own hygienic compartment.
  • DuoFlow nozzle with bamboo knob: The DuoFlow nozzle in the Tushy Wave is a game-changer in my book, and the stylish bamboo knob is just the icing on the cake. It’s easy to use without second-guessing yourself, which gives you complete control over cleanliness.

Good to Know

Remember that the seat can be adjusted to the depth of your toilet. If you, like me, run into an issue with the Tushy Wave being too close to the back of your toilet or not aligning with the seat, try pulling it forward after it’s fully installed. Additionally, do not run the bidet unless you’re sitting on the toilet seat.

Should You Buy the Tushy Wave?

The Tushy Wave is a beyond-suitable choice for those who are specifically looking for a non-electric bidet. I’d especially recommend it to those who meet the following criteria:

  • Don’t have a toilet that’s near an outlet.
  • Don’t want a bidet attachment that sticks out from the toilet.
  • Are looking for a bidet that seamlessly blends into their bathroom setup.

Where to Buy the Tushy Wave

At this time, the Tushy Wave Non-Electric Bidet is available exclusively on Tushy’s website for $189.
