What you do to your walls can have a HUGE impact on the look, feel and mood of your home. So start with how you'd like the room to feel — what kind of vibe you'd like it to rock — and use this guide to give you ideas for the kind of treatment that would work for your walls.

If you want a playful space:

Go for polka dots! Paint the on or use vinyl wall decal stickers to get the look.

If you are feeling glam:

Go for a medium-hue gray. Amherst Grey by Benjamin Moore really sets just the right tone in the room below.

If you want to double down on the drama...

Do go for a dark black color on the walls. Make it matte for something subtle or high-gloss if you really want a luxurious feel.

If you want to go super fun and trendy...

Go for a painted-on Memphis-style pattern! Bold, primary colors and lots of squiggles and other 80s'-inspired patterns everywhere right now in fashion and furniture. Find inspiration in the creative House Call below:

If you are feeling more traditional...

Add decorative architectural trim to your walls, like picture-frame molding. Any architectural features, from wainscoting to crown molding to chair rails and more can add instant elegance to a space, and aren't terribly difficult to achieve if you've got some DIY skills.

If you want to go haute hippie...

Then hang a colorful, bold rug on the wall!

If you are feeling nostalgic...

Go for this pink hue! Sara Kate used BEHR's Sweet Nectar.

When you need to boost the energy....

Pattern up with vinyl wall decals! Buy or DIY for the look of wallpaper.

If you are embracing your outdoors-y side...

Go for a wall-sized nature photo or wallpaper!

If you're feeling family-friendly...

Go for a chalkboard paint!

If you are interested in industrial...

Go for a brick wall! Don't have a brick wall? Guess what, you can DIY one.
