Even the cleanest and most organized homes can get cluttered and super overwhelming fast. Because there’s one thing that piles up faster than a shopping cart in the final minutes of Supermarket Sweep. Unless you’re ready, and keep on top of it every single day, you’ll soon be buried under a suffocating mountain of stuff. This weekend, take the time to conquer this particular mess, and feel lighter almost immediately.

This Weekend’s Assignment: Deal with your stacks of mail, and figure out a future filing solution.

Tame the Mail Mountain: Has your mail taken over your life? Between random credit card offers and ads piling up in your mailbox, it adds up fast doesn’t it? First, position yourself over a recycling bin or shredder and go through your backlog of mail and shred or toss anything you don’t need for later.

Create An Active Filing Zone: Even if you aren’t working with a lot of space, having a proper place to put your important mail is crucial to keep both your life and entryway in order. While opening mail daily is ideal, immediate action isn’t necessary as long as you have a system in place for keeping it organized. Put it in an easily accessible, prominent spot —to be handled later when it’s more convenient.

Deal with the Junk: Once you’re in good shape, start throwing out junk mail the moment it hits your entryway,, every single day. Or better yet, stop junk mail at the source, so it never gets even close to your mailbox.

Remember, as with all of our Weekend Projects, just do what you have the time and energy to do. This is a marathon, not a sprint!
