We’ve been expanding our Personal Shopper series for a while now, both with visits to new retailers and returns to some of the first stores we visited when we started, including West Elm. There’s a reason this brand is so loved by readers and shoppers in general. You can trust that just about any piece from West Elm will not only look supremely stylish in your home, but that it will also hold up amid years of use without losing its luster. This is especially true of the sofas. After so many store visits, it has become difficult to recall all of the individual couches, sectionals, and sleepers we’ve viewed, but those from West Elm remain fresh in our minds. Standouts include the small-space-friendly Oliver, the loungy Haven, and the fan-favorite Harmony. The latter proved especially popular among our readers after we published our shopping guide, so we thought we’d expand on our thoughts on this living room stunner. Keep reading to learn about our honest opinions.

What is the Harmony sofa?

We technically viewed the two-piece sectional version of the Harmony during our store visit, but the sofa is basically that without the chaise. Really, no matter which configuration you opt for, you can’t go wrong. Apartment dwellers, however, will likely prefer the 76” or 82” sofa. (The Harmony is also available in a 92” width and a 104” width.) Beyond the width, this model is still highly customizable. You can choose from more than 100 upholstery fabrics, two seat cushion styles, and two depths. The standard 41” depth still allows you to sit and lie down in a variety of positions, but the 47” depth makes the sofa a prime napping spot. Although the Harmony falls into the modern style category, it still stands apart from other models thanks to its unique plank legs and ultra-plush cushions — including side cushions that could double as pillows!

Why We Love the Harmony Sofa

We rated the Harmony sofa highly in many criteria categories when we viewed it in-store. Specifically, it got a 10 out of 10 for nappability and also scored well for multifunctionality. In other words, not only can you nap and lounge on this sofa, but it’s also a solid pick for people who work from home or frequently entertain guests. Above all, though, we were impressed with how comfortable it is. “It’s truly cloud-like to lie on, and the many pillows that adorn the sectional have varied amounts of fill, producing back support where it’s needed and head, arm, and neck support on the sides,” our review reads. “It’s practically made to nap on, but its retro, stylish appearance is enough all on its own.”

The same praise holds true for the sofa version, which also comes with lumbar cushions. We also noted that its platform-supported cushions make the Harmony reminiscent of the step-down sunken living rooms of the ’60s. Despite this alluring feature, it still manages to stand out as one of the most contemporary sofa styles at West Elm.

So long as you like its appearance, the Harmony is practically perfect. Compact, beautiful, and comfortable — what more could you ask for? We have a feeling that once this sofa is in your living room, it’ll be there to stay.
