Marimekko and West Elm’s New Collab Includes an Ultra-Chic Bean Bag Chair
Calling all contemporary color and pattern lovers: West Elm and Marimekko just teamed up on their second collaboration, a new limited-edition line of indoor and outdoor decor, furniture, and accessories. Perfect for summer 2023 and beyond, these pieces are an ode to three of the Finnish brand’s iconic vintage prints.
Marimekko fans may recognize the revival of the rippled Kaivo and floral Primavera prints — both designed by Maija Isola in 1964 and 1972, respectively — as well as the scalloped-looking 1968 Papajo pattern by Annika Rimala. Jeffrey Hannoosh, senior vice president of product design at West Elm, said in a press release that these archived designs “were selected for their signature Marimekko style and embody an optimism that is perfect for summer life outdoors.” All three leave their mark on a range of quintessential West Elm items in rich blue, yellow, and red tones. (Think: punchy rugs, umbrellas, pillows, hammocks, and outdoor seating, including the arguable pièce de résistance, a stylish, grown-up bean bag chair.) The majority of the offerings can function both inside and out as well.
As of today, you can shop the West Elm + Marimekko summer line in stores and online, with prices ranging from $30 to $1,299. I picked out a few of my favorite pieces below, whether you’re looking to up your al fresco ante or just want to incorporate more Finnish-inspired design in your home.
