West Elm’s New Collection Will Have You Dreaming of Summer
West Elm’s boho-chic summer collection of furniture and accessories will have you throwing impromptu garden parties in no time (even if it’s just a backyard-less fantasy). The globally-inspired, itching-to-be-Instagrammed looks include rugs in modern ikat patterns, eye-catching woven seating, and a plethora of modern outdoor furnishings. “Our story takes its inspiration from Marfa, Texas, and celebrates the feeling of tensions between different elements in the home, from rustic and modern, to old and new,” says Jonathan Orr, West Elm’s VP of Design for Textiles and Decorative Accessories. Take a look at some of Orr’s favorite pieces from the new line (available online now!) and get excited for summer.
“These are the perfect addition to any room to add that touch of optimism and playfulness,” says Orr. Just pick a fabric in one of a few heavenly hues and you are on your way—if you can make it out the door with just one. But don’t feel guilty, these multipurpose beauties can hide away your goods while they hold your cocktails safe.
Portside Outdoor Collection, Starting at $229
Is there anything better than dining al fresco on a crisp summer night? The Portside Outdoor Collection, with its expandable dining table, bench, and chair makes it easy to do it in style. The collection as a whole, says Orr, “embodies the desire to enjoy the warmer weather and what that brings with it.”
Zoe Bios Collection, Starting at $19
“This collection was designed in collaboration with Los Angeles-based artist collective Zoe Bios,” explains Orr of the painterly rug, bedding, and pillow designs. “I was excited that we were able to make the outdoor pillows look and feel like traditional indoor pillows while being outdoor safe.”
This cheery, Peruvian-inspired print is woven of water-resistant wicker and melds well with just about anything, including the Concrete Pedestal Bistro Table ($799). Not into the sunny colorway? Pick it up in gray, it looks just as good!
Ikat Mix Indoor/Outdoor Rug, Starting at $299
“Offering a greater selection of outdoor rugs was important for us this season,” says Orr. “This Ikat Mix rug adds vibrant color and pattern anywhere from playroom to entry to patio.” It’s also a fit for all seasons, so don’t bother putting it away.
Tete-a-Tete Chair, Starting at $988 for Set of 2
“These chairs were designed with collaborators Roar + Rabbit and are incredibly versatile,” says Orr. “They can be used as a single chair or put together to create an intimate S-shaped sofa for two people to sit face-to-face.” Orr recommends getting this modern love seat in soft millennial pink or inky blue velvet—we agree.
Organic Candlewick Blanket, Starting at $149
“A white bed is perfect for summer as it looks fresh, clean, and light for those warmer days. By adding playful texture, you can still show off your personality while keeping it all white,” says Orr. Texture is also a great way to add depth to a neutral color palette, and when the blanket is as soft as it is beautiful, it’s a winner.
Tabla Glass Hurricanes, Starting at $29
The rippled glass casts a startlingly beautiful effect when the light of the candle shines through. The chic, hand-cast base doesn’t hurt matters either.
Who can be bothered to carry multiple glasses at once? This creatively chic caddy pairs well with poolside living and West Elm’s flirty patterned glassware ($8). And as Orr states, “It feels like a great nod to a more vintage design time.”
3D Squares Mosaic Tiled Bistro Table, Starting at $376
Add a touch of artsy seaside decor to your outdoor space. The Mosaic Tiled Bistro table features 3-D ceramic tiles inlaid onto a weathered hardwood base.
Nina Console, $599
Sometimes the simplest things are the most striking. This brass-finished console’s slim profile makes it ideal for entryways, narrow hallways, or to add interest (and display space) behind a sofa.
Sea Glass Vases, Starting at $10
“We love the simple lines and soft colors found in this collection. These can be mixed and matched to create a beautiful tablescape both indoors and out,” says Orr. With these sand-washed hues, it doesn’t take a lot of convincing.
Capsule Settee, $1,499
Sit back and relax, because this settee’s wraparound frame is padded with comfy channel quilting. The soft, soothing palette is perfect for summer entertaining. The goal, says Orr, was to make outdoor entertaining easy, with “seating that is as comfortable as your indoor furniture.”
Metal Square Lanterns, Starting at $24
Who doesn’t dream of a poolside soiree on a balmy summer night? These lanterns feature a refined and enticing medley of materials with an architectural appeal.
Gaya Shiny Ash Celadon Dinnerware Set, Starting at $40
Elevate your tabletop design with this glazed stoneware collection—the result of a fruitful collaboration with Gaya, a ceramic studio located in Bali.
