This Cheery Glassware Trend Is Everywhere — Here’s How You Can Get the Look, Starting at $8
Tabletop trends come and go, but one that’s recently re-entered the collective design world is colorful glassware — whether it’s pink champagne coupes, bright blue tumblers, or any shade of the rainbow in between. Believe it or not, the colorful decorative vessels you’re seeing today have some ties to the early 20th century, when what’s known as Depression Glass became commonplace in the United States. Following the stock market crash of 1929, glassmakers shifted from manufacturing luxury crystal to more inexpensively-produced colored glass products. These relatively low-cost wares were then marketed as little luxuries the average family could still indulge in, bringing a sense of normalcy and optimism into Depression-era homes.
It’s no surprise that these cheery-hued glass styles have made a resounding comeback — this time around with double the design variety. There are more ways than ever to display colored glassware, too, like on bar carts, open kitchen shelving, fireplace mantels, bookcases, and beyond. That’s not to say this fad’s purely decorative though: Adding a fun colored cup to your beverage rotation (and tablescape situation) instantly guarantees an extra dose of joy, no matter what you’re drinking.
While you can still luck out collecting original Depression Glass pieces from vintage sellers (or maybe even your own grandparents’ houses), most modern brands have leaned into this look with their own stylish iterations. To help stock your collection, we scoured the market to find some of the prettiest, well-made, and display-worthy pieces out there.
