When I was a kid, my family would have an AC unit running in every bedroom window of our apartment during the summer. Although the units kept our home cool, they were incredibly loud, so it was a welcome relief when we eventually moved into a house with central air conditioning. Ever since then, I’ve been a bit spoiled in only wanting to live in places with central AC. But that’s not always possible, especially here in NYC.

Fortunately, window units have improved a lot since my childhood, and you can now find models that are as technologically advanced as all of your other smart home devices. Perhaps none is more popular than Windmill’s window AC, however. It took the internet by storm a few years ago with its sleek design and app-controlled settings. It wasn’t until our editors tested it for themselves that we realized just how ingenious this device really is. And now, you can score it on sale at QVC! Oh, and did we mention it’s unbelievably quiet?

What is the Windmill 6,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner?

Design-wise, this AC unit stuns with its curved silhouette and minimalist appeal. It comes with “cosmetic side panels,” or solid-white pieces that layer over the accordion-style attachments on either side of unit, so it won’t detract from your interior aesthetic. You also get a window installation kit with your purchase. It includes two rolls of insulation foam, an extra filter, a remote control, a window lock, screws, and scissors. When senior style editor Blair tested the AC, she found it easy to install. Once it was up and running, she took note of how quiet it was.

“In terms of noise, the Windmill AC hardly makes a sound while running in my bedroom,” Blair wrote in her review. “You definitely hear something, but it’s more like a gentle, continuous hum versus a repetitive rattle. I own the small 6,000 BTU size, but both the medium and large styles include options for Windmill’s new, slightly-more-expensive WhisperTech feature, which runs nine times quieter than similarly-sized counterparts.”

The 6,000 BTU size of the Windmill AC is designed to cool down rooms up to 250 square feet, and you’ll also be happy to learn that you have multiple ways of controlling it: via remote, on-unit buttons, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, or the Windmill app. The latter allows you to turn on the AC ahead of time from wherever you are and even create custom automations, like scheduled time triggers.

What QVC Reviewers Are Saying

Average Rating: 4.8/5

“I love it, especially that the air is blown upwards so I don’t always catch a chill when using it! I l also love the eco settings that allow it to automatically switch to fan mode at times to save energy!! I love that I can program it on my phone so I don’t have to get out of bed to switch it on or off, and I love that the refrigerant that is used is more eco-friendly than others. I’m telling all my friends about this unit!” — Abi

“We bought this air conditioner after several neighbors bought one, primarily because they are quiet. We are now able to keep the AC on while we watch TV (woohoo!). The AC is smaller than expected and is very easy to install. We love that the air blows up and not out, so we no longer have freezing cold spots but rather a nice cool temperature throughout the space.” — Rebecca

“This is the best purchase I made all year! Very well-designed, easy to install and cools the space quickly. I like how you can control it from the app. I’ll be purchasing another unit.” — Khalis

It might already be August, but depending on where you live, the hot temps might be nowhere near over. Forego the suffering of the summer heat wave, and grab your own unit while it’s on sale. You won’t regret it!
