Anyone with tile in their home knows just how annoying and labor-intensive it can be to keep grout clean. Sure, you could DIY a baking soda cleaning paste and then get on your hands and knees to scrub the lines, one by one. Or, you could just take the sage advice of a TikTok user, who found an even more effective (and much faster) way to take care of your stained grout.

According to this viral TikTok, lifting all that grime and discoloration from your grout is as easy as pouring Zep Grout Cleaner and Brightener — a $7 product from Home Depot.

If almost 800,000 likes on TikTok isn’t enough to convince you, take it from a raving Home Depot customer, who used the product on her son’s dingy (read: black) kitchen, dining room, and hallway tile grout. “Until he removed kitchen cabinets we had no idea it was actually supposed to be light taupe,” she writes. “I would recommend this product to anyone. If it can clean this grout, it can clean any grout!!”

Here’s why it works so well: Zep contains “strong-but-safe” acids that essentially act as a “magic eraser” for grout lines, all without the need for heavy scrubbing — and as a bonus, the formula isn’t abrasive to tile surfaces, so you can literally just squeeze the bottle directly on your grout lines without worrying about messing up your floors. Note: While the cleaner works on both white and colored grout lines on tile floors, don’t use it on stone surfaces (like marble or Corian) or chrome, stainless steel, or brass.

In the video, you can see the results right away, almost as soon as the cleaner hits the ground. The creator simply pours the product all over her dirty grout, then immediately brushes the lines, which transform from brown to white right in front of your eyes.

Depending on how dirty your grout is, you might want to wait a little longer. The happy Home Depot customer recommends squirting the product directly on the grout, allowing it to sit for ten minutes, then using a hard bristle brush to remove the grime. After removing the excess product with a towel, you’ll have brand-new-looking grout and a new favorite cleaner to keep on hand at all times!
