With working from home growing increasingly common around the U.S., the importance of carving out a space in your home to get work done is becoming more and more necessary. While you might be lucky enough to have a separate room available for a home office, many people need to get creative and make a spot for themselves to focus. While finding the right desk (or standing desk!) is a hugely significant part of this process, equally important is choosing the perfect chair—ideally, one that is functional, comfortable and stylish. We rounded up our favorites across prices and styles so you can get to work but feel good about it.

Maxwell's Favorite:

Office chairs aren't just for the office anymore as I work a lot at home and need a good chair that won't kill my back after an hour. That said, most are so ugly you wouldn't want them in your nice cozy home, which is why we hunted down the best-looking ones we could find.

While I love the Aeron chair and could be convinced that its softer silver color could make it at home, I just couldn't vote for it when I tried IKEA's new offering in the space. A stunning design, with lovely soft colors and a very good sit, the HATTEFJÄLL at $219 is—I believe—the perfect home office chair... at least until you start trading stocks or gaming from home from breakfast to dinner and need to spend hundreds on a high performance chair.

A budget-friendly option from Wayfair, this no-frills chair is simple and functional. You can purchase it with or without arms (although arms add $20 to the cost), and with 16 different colors options you're pretty much guaranteed to find one you like. While not technically ergonomic, the material is comfortable and the mid back height is just right.

Another simple chair, this time from IKEA, the ORFJÄLL is designed with multifunctional office spaces in mind. The neutral color and unobtrusive construction is meant to blend in with other furniture and not take up too much visual space, while the back handle and wheeled legs make it easily transportable no matter where you get work done.

An upgrade from other basic office chairs, this pick found on AllModern is functional, simple and just plain easy. It comes in ten colors and has a comfortable mesh backing, plus the height and tilt tension can be adjusted to suit your preferences. It's nothing fancy, but it's an understated option that just has a bit more than the less expensive chairs while still being decently priced.

Clear acrylic furniture is very much on trend, and this swivel chair is a perfect gateway piece if you want to test this trend out in your own home. Sleek and minimal, it'll blend right into your space and won't take up a lot of room. If you're worried about it being a bit too stark, a nice throw blanket or pillow will warm it up and make it extra comfortable.

This chair has a pretty unique design, utilizing bungee cords for support instead of a typical seat. At first glance it looks rather painful to sit on, but give it a try and you'll find that it's actually supportive and comfortable; in fact, many people who suffer from back problems swear by it. Plus, the bungee cords make it super lightweight and easy to move around if you like to work in different spots, and the bright color makes it pop.

Mid-century modern and subtly sophisticated, the Artemis Chair has a solid wood base and faux leather cushion and comes in four different styles. We love that this color combo is a refreshing change from the classic all-black styles — it's simple without being boring, and a statement piece that isn't too bold. Plus, the price isn't terribly high, especially for the great style.

A modern update to the old-fashioned office chair styles of the past, this chair from West Elm is gorgeous and sophisticated. If you're looking for a vintage vibe but modern construction, this chair could be your answer: the leather upholstery, rich coloring and metal construction all scream "den with a roaring fireplace and mahogany bookshelves." This chair will elevate any space (even if your office is just a desk in a spare corner).

The gold standard of office chairs, Herman Miller has a couple no-fail styles to choose from. The classic, however, is the Aeron, a sturdy, ergonomic and dependable chair that will keep you comfortable for hours. These are the chairs we have in the AT office, and I can assure you that they are worth the hype. While they aren't pretty (or cheap), they offer exceptional quality and comfort and will last forever.

At the top of this list, both in price and thoughtful design, is the Embody chair, also from Herman Miller. The standout feature here is the back, which is designed like a human's, complete with a central spine and flexible ribs to seamlessly align with your own back. Needless to say, it's ultra comfortable and definitely worth a look if you spend hours at a time at your desk.
