When it comes to finding the right bed, the space you’re allotted is easily the most important factor to take into consideration. Provided you’re not intimidated by the idea of climbing a ladder, a loft bed is one of the very best ways to make the most of a really, really small space. Abiding by the cardinal rule of small-space living (think vertically), loft beds lift your bed off of the floor, vastly expanding the space beneath your bed. This space can then be used for everything from storage to creating a makeshift office or dining space. The only difficulty is that, if you’re not up for creating a loft bed yourself, finding one that’s not meant for kids can be a bit of a challenge (i.e. one that doesn’t look like a tree house and is tall enough for an adult to move under). But fear not — we did the work for you and dug up these 10 great options.

Do you have a loft bed you love? Let us know in the comments below!

West Elm

This option from West Elm doesn't look remotely childish, thanks to that sophisticated mid-century modern style. Made in collaboration with PB Teen, it includes a built-in desk so you can get the most bang for your buck.

For something that's seriously modern and stylish, check out this very cool find from Oeuf. Made of birch with a walnut finish, this bed is well-made, good-looking, and requires zero assembly. It's expensive, especially considering that it doesn't come with a desk or storage space, but there's no doubt it will make a statement in your small space.

Looking for something simple and budget-friendly? This bed from Wayfair is a great pick, with a built-in desk and small bookshelf for ultimate functionality. It's meant for kids, but the sleek industrial look suits adult rooms, too. Plus, it comes in three colors!

Home Depot

Another simple, straightforward option, this bed found on Home Depot comes in two finishes and has a desk that could also be used as a vanity. The cappuccino option is great if you want a traditional, very much "adult" look, but we recommend the gray for its versatility and contemporary flair.

PB Teen

PBTeen has a few options, and most of them can be configured to include a desk or dresser or both. This bed is GREENGUARD Gold Certified, and includes a desk, four drawers, and nine open shelves, making it seriously suited to even the tiniest of spaces. It's expensive, but considering all you're getting it's well worth the higher cost.

Budget-friendly brand Mack & Milo always has stylish furniture at affordable prices, and this platform loft bed is no exception. Available in five sleek colors, this chic bed features a spacious loft area, giving you plenty of space to work or just hang out.

Looking for something custom? Check out FurnitureNcretaions. Unlike most loft beds, this full option comes in tons of colors! Each bed is custom-made, so it may take a longer time to ship, but if you can wait you'll have a furniture piece you'll want to keep around for many years.

was $254.19

Another option that doesn't have a built-in desk (although you can select to have one included at an extra cost), this bed has everything you need and nothing more. It's a good choice if you want a bare-bones option that you can personalize, and is also available in silver and white.

Of course, you can't forget about IKEA. The retailer currently only offers one Full-size loft bed, but it's a simple, streamlined option that pretty much everyone can agree on. The desk is not included with this one, so you have flexibility to use the space as an office, closet, lounge area, or whatever else you want.

For a more traditional look, consider this bed found on PBTeen. Featuring a full-size bed, desk, and 3-drawer dresser, this is a great option for a small bedroom that can't waste any space. There are even two large open shelves, perfect for keeping your plants, books, or storage baskets, and a roll-out desk on easy-glide casters.
