Things we love about this property crush:

Located on a private retreat in Greene, this home was built around 1944. Here’s what we know: The original owner, who was a structural engineer, built the house himself and in 1979 (likely after his death), his wife granted the property to the Audubon Society, which owns over 300 acres of land around the structure. At one point, the home was in total disrepair. Fast forward to 1993 when the current owner and her father bought the Coventry home and renovated it to the structure that is now for sale: And, wow, what a renovation!

But let’s be clear: This isn’t one of those renos that looks like every home you see on TV. The space is unique and the details are meticulous. Plus, it’s huge.

The exterior is much larger than you’d imagine for a two-bedroom home, and it was restored to keep the original stonework in place. A stone pathway leads to the house and is flanked by shady, mature trees. It almost feels as if you’re pulling up to a fancy spa.

Inside, the showstopper is a grand staircase that leads to the second floor. What was once a drab iron railing has been transformed into rich woods that anchor the home. A large living room is surrounded by windows and will feel extra cozy in the winter with a gas stone fireplace. This room leads to the eat-in kitchen that’s like a breath of fresh air, design-wise. Rich dark wood is accented by chef’s appliances, granite countertops, and two center islands. There’s a designated space that’s ideal for a round dining table. This floor also has a half-bathroom.

Both bedrooms are located on the second floor where no expense was spared. Huge sleeping spaces are flooded with light and have hardwood flooring and balconies. The spa bathroom boasts a massive soaking tub, built-in shelving, and floor-to-ceiling windows.

The home is located on seven-plus acres of land and completely surrounded by conservation land. There’s beautifully landscaped gardens and a two-car garage.
