Welcome to “The World at Home: 31 Real House Tours Around the Globe.” Check out where else we’ve visited this month here.
Claudia is a freelance photographer, “passionate” interior stylist, and popular home decor blogger (she goes by “doitbutdoitnow“) in Berlin. The home she shares with her boyfriend in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg neighborhood is full of vintage furniture, serene decor, and a lot of light.
Her home was recommended to us as a beautiful place to tour by Christina Nydahl, who is the Brand Collaborations and Social Media Manager at Bemz, a company that specializes in custom design covers and legs for IKEA furniture. Below, Claudia answers some questions about her home’s style. (We’ve actually gotten a look at both Christina’s home AND the home of Bemz’s founder, Lesley Pennington.)
Apartment Therapy Survey:
Describe your home’s decor style in 5 words: Modern vintage mix, bright, and natural colors.
What’s your favorite thing about your home? I always wanted to live in an old building with high ceilings, wooden floors, stucco, and the old double windows. We looked a long time for this dream apartment and are now very happy with it and all the historic features.
What’s your least favorite thing about your home? Our power will turn off if we are using too much at once, and the walls are quite thin.
It’s a typical Berlin home in an old apartment building with wooden floors, stucco, and double wing doors.
What’s your best small space trick? Don’t mix too much color, and buy clean furniture without ornamentation. Also, use the full space (with high shelves or closets).
Our home is actually quite big for two people and a cat (three bedrooms and 1044 square feet), but since I am working from home we really needed that much space.
But I also have friends who are living in one-bedroom apartment with just 376 square feet—that’s really small in my opinion.
What’s the most recent thing you’ve bought for your home? A new dining table because the old one was a little big for our dining room.
What’s the one thing that makes your space feel like home? Of course my cat.
