When I bought an apartment 12 years ago, I decided to scrap the hodgepodge of random furniture I’d collected over the years and find pieces that actually went together. I consulted a friend who’s an interior designer, and we chose soothing colors for my new space: light gray walls with white molding, and furniture and decor in shades of cream and dark brown.

My biggest dilemma was whether to get a white sofa or something more in the brown family, as white obviously shows stains, dirt, and wear and tear easily. Because my apartment is small, I went for white to make the space feel bigger and brighter.

Because I was very careful, that sofa held up well for about 10 years — until I noticed a tiny spot on it. I tried getting it out with soap and water, and that created a water stain. I then tried multiple solutions to remove the water stain, and they made things worse.

Long story short: I needed a new sofa. So when Albany Park offered to let me try a stain-resistant version of its Lido 75” sofa, I jumped at the chance. Knowing that the brand is trusted and beloved by my colleagues, I took the plunge and chose the creamy Sand Performance Basketweave fabric. And after eight months of lounging, entertaining, and dining on it, it still looks brand-new.

Design Features That Stand Out

The fact that this sofa is stain-resistant is the big selling point. The tight basketweave fabric repels liquids but also resists snags and makes it easy to brush off hair, lint, or crumbs. I haven’t needed to wash the cushion covers yet, but I love that I have the option.

The sofa’s chic, compact design is another standout: At 75”, the Lido Sofa (which is also available in a sectional and 86” version) doesn’t take up a lot of square footage, yet it still provides plenty of room for two people to sit comfortably.

How It Performed

The Lido Sand Performance Basketweave Sofa was delivered to my door in three separate boxes, and it was relatively simple to assemble on my own (although some of the pieces are a bit of a heavy lift, so having an extra helping hand definitely doesn’t hurt). After putting it together, I slid it into the area where my old white sofa had been. The sofa was a little bit wider than my previous couch and took up a bit more space (whoops!), but it was so much more comfortable that it was worth it!

The seating was deeper, which I loved, and the cushions were more supportive and, well, cushier. Sitting on the Lido felt almost like a luxurious experience. I smoothed my hands over the light-colored basketweave fabric, and I could tell that this thing was built to last.

And, so far, I’ve been right! The weave is extremely durable, and I don’t have to treat it as delicately as I did my old white sofa. I used to put a throw blanket down before anyone sat on that couch, but I don’t need to do that now. This is a white sofa I can actually use. Napping, hosting, snacking, lounging, working — I’ve done it all with the Lido, without stressing about staining or wear. It literally and figuratively keeps me more relaxed than my previous white sofa did.

What I Loved

  • It’s so comfortable. My old sofa had a straight back and tufted seat, so the deep, thick cushions of the Lido have been a game changer. They also have maintained their shape very well almost a year later.
  • It stays clean. Seriously, this sofa looks as spotless as it did the day it arrived.
  • It’s beautiful. The creamy Sand color brightens up my living space, and the classic design works so well with the rest of my decor. For the record, I chose black metal legs for the sofa, which I think make it look even more striking.

Should You Buy the Albany Park Lido 75” Sand Performance Basketweave Sofa?

I get it — a white sofa may seem impractical and might not be for everybody. But based on my experience, the Lido 75” Sand Basketweave Sofa is perfect for the following:

  • Those who want a durable, light-colored sofa that will stand up to stains, spills, pets, and kids.
  • Those who live in studios or need a compact sofa for their living area.
  • Those looking for an incredibly comfortable, deep sofa that they will spend a lot of time on.

If you’re on the fence about buying a white sofa, Albany Park offers a 30-day in-home trial. Should you want to return it, the brand charges 10% of what you paid for the sofa (if original packaging is intact) or 20% without original packaging (the fee is capped at $200). Albany Park will accept the return and issue a refund as long as the sofa is in “like new” condition.
