She Put a 5-Tier Bookshelf on Her Fridge, and It Created Storage Out of Thin Air
When you don’t have a lot of traditional storage space like cabinets and closets in your home, it’s usually wise to start looking at your walls as a storage solution. Unfortunately, thanks to appliances like your fridge and oven, your kitchen may not have a lot of wall space to spare. But maybe you’ve been thinking about it all wrong. After all, what is the side of a fridge but a giant magnetic wall?
It may keep food cool on the inside, but the outside of your fridge can be quite useful for storage as well, if you know how to use it. That’s where this brilliant hack using a five-tiered wooden bookshelf and a set of adhesive magnets comes into play.
Why You Should Put a Bookshelf on the Side of Your Fridge
There are some storage items designed for your fridge that are already magnetized, but thanks to anInstagram video by DIY home style content creator Alissa Steinbrugge, I know that there are far more possibilities out there if you’re willing to get a little creative.
On the side of her fridge, she installed a 5-Tier Curve Groove Wooden Bookshelf. It’s large, but slim — measuring 63 inches tall, 23.6 inches wide, and 3.9 inches deep. It cost $129.98, and you can get it in dark wood or light wood. To keep it from falling over, Steinbrugge added “heavy duty adhesive magnets” to the back of the shelf. It’s a brief video, but you can easily see what a transformation this is.
Why This Storage Hack Is So Brilliant
One of the most striking parts of this DIY is that Steinbrugge curated the items on the shelf in a way that reminds me more of a vanity than a kitchen. There’s decor, like prints in ornate frames and little vases of flowers, but there are also cookbooks and jars of spices and oil. Steinbrugge decanted her oils and spices into elegant bottles that look more like perfumes and cosmetics, but even store-brand seasonings would look nice in an elevated storage setting like this.
Of course, if you, like me, are looking for proper storage, you could fill it with just seasonings, cooking tools, cleaning supplies, or whatever you need to store in your kitchen that you don’t yet have room for.
