Anthropologie’s New Halloween Throw Is So Subtle, I’d Keep It Out Year-Round
Controversial as it may be, I start decorating for Halloween in mid-August every year. (Why delay the fun?) In other words, yes, I celebrate Summerween. I don’t go all out with my party decorations until late September; I just like to make a few small swaps to help get me excited for spooky season as the summer winds down. Dish towels, glassware, throw pillows — incorporating just a few festive items into my everyday routine brings me so much joy!
As a style editor, however, I’m very particular about my Halloween decor. I gravitate towards more subtly spooky pieces that still fit the vibe of my space. One of my favorite places to shop for super-chic holiday decor is Anthropologie. Every year, the brand’s Halloween collection tempts both my wallet and my willpower; many of their pieces are stylish enough to keep up year-round, IMHO. So I was thrilled to see the brand just released a creepy-but-cute new colorway for one of their most beloved cozy staples: the Woven Jacquard Patterned Throw Blanket.
Anthropologie’s Best-Selling Blanket Got a Spooky Makeover
Regardless of how you feel about the idea of Summerween, you must admit that Anthropologie’s Woven Jacquard Throw Blanket is adorable. The new Halloween Icon pattern features various spooky silhouettes — a fuzzy black cat, witch hats, bats, etc. —- set against a cool beige background and surrounded by checkerboard edges. The design is very whimsical and fun, but still subtle enough that guests might not immediately know you’ve already started decorating for the holiday. And the flip side of the blanket is a rich pink shade, a far cry from the typical orange tones usually associated with the holiday.
This beloved blanket is an Anthro classic at this point, but it feels fresh and new with this spooky twist. Writer Abby Fribush purchased the throw in the color “Francois “last year, because the pattern reminded her of a tapestry. Though she fell in love with the pattern, the quality of the blanket was also a pleasant surprise. “Because this blanket is woven, not printed, the design has a [more] authentic look,” she writes, “and without the scratchy wool of your average thrift store throw!”
Reviewers Love Anthropologie’s Woven Jacquard Patterned Throw, Too
Customers seem to love this blanket, too. So it’s no wonder Anthropologie decided to develop a Halloween version. One happy customer writes: “Love this blanket. Colors were amazing! Super soft and cozy.” Another promises that you’ll be able to enjoy the throw’s creepy cozy vibes even in the height of Summerween. “This blanket is a staple for my bed and super light in the summer!!!” they write. “The texture is super soft but not overwhelmingly hot. [It’s] the perfect summer throw.”
Sometimes seasonal decor can feel frivolous and wasteful, especially in a small space. The idea of having to store bulky holiday decorations for ten months out of the year isn’t always appealing, but single-use, low-quality plastic decorations aren’t ideal either. But at just under $70, this blanket is a great alternative. It’s a great deal for a high-quality, seasonal piece; you’ll be able to enjoy your cozy throw for many Halloweens to come.
