Name: Kate Location: San Francisco, California I’ve taken a long time to furnish our place on a budget. Flea markets, craigslist, and the occasional splurge. The challenges I’ve overcome include budget, small spaces, and a husband who is minimal (I’m maximal!). I’m proudest of the nursery which features wallpaper from the Beverly Hills Hotel (not visible in the photo I’m sending, but it’s there!), among other things.

Before & After: A Laminate Cabinet Gets a Face-lift
This laminate cabinet hadn’t seen the light of day in awhile, storing odds and ends in a basement. But when Jessica and her husband moved into their new house and were looking for furniture they could make their own, they decided to try and brighten this dark piece with paint to fit the style of their new dining room. From Jessica: It is a laminate cabinet that I first lightly sanded and then used a glossy surfaced primer on to give it a good base coat.
