Here we are, rounding the corner just before the home stretch. We’ve shared over 130 small cool homes with you so far and still have a few more days of new entries to come. Here are 10 entries that caught the eye of voters this past week; check them (and ALL of the competitors who are looking for votes) out and enjoy the supersized dose of small space inspiration and ideas.
Twelve years after our very first Small Cool contest and readers are still impressing us with sumptuous style, creative solutions and sage wisdom for living life to the fullest in a small home. Every year we are wowed with the display of small coolness and we are excited to host all this small space inspiration. Thank you to everyone who participated in the contest by sharing your home with our community, by commenting and voting for your favorites. And now, to congratulate our winners!
We’ve seen 25 homes so far in our 11th Annual (!) Small Cool contest and it’s already a memorable year. These homes all have square footage under 1000 square feet but miles of style to spare. Today, we’ve got a look back at some standouts from Week One, along with a link to ALL the entries so far. Kyle’s Teeny-Tiny City Home Every year, the Small Cool Contest gets cooler and cooler, and this year, we saw some really stellar entries. The competition was steep, and the judges had their work cut out for them, but in the end, it’s like Highlander—there can be only one. (Well, technically, two, since we have an international division as well.
It checks off a major chore without you having to lift a finger, and by having two, you can cover more ground in a smaller period of time. Makes sense to us!
It’s about that time of the year when we’re craving coziness, so let’s chat about fireplaces. What seems like a luxury to some may actually be a design burden or eyesore for others—there are a lot of dated and dreary old fireplaces floating around out there. The good news is that there are also a lot of ways to make them modern. Whether with a simple coat of paint or a total overhaul, yours can definitely be saved to look chic in your space.

Hamilton (Designer, and our first ever Small Cool contest winner), voted on your choices for the top 5 homes in each of our divisions. After counting their votes and (triple!) checking my tallies, I’m excited to share the division winners and finalists for the smallest coolest home of 2014.
