Beck’s Latest House Flip is a Hygge Tudor in LA for $3.75M
With a new record dropping on Friday called Colors, it might be shocking to Beck fans that the Grammy-winning 90s icon is actually more of a fan of neutral palettes — at least, that is, judging by his last two Los Angeles renovation projects in as many years.
The LA-native musician and his wife, actress Marissa Ribisi (twin sister to Giovanni, known best for her role as redhead Cynthia in Dazed and Confused), are quickly making a name for themselves as adept home flippers. Just one year after buying a multi-million dollar Tudor-style home in Brentwood for $3.15 million, Beck is now selling the property for $3.75 million — and all just two years after the couple sold their modest Santa Monica cottage five months after purchasing it and for $316,000 more than they paid for it. (Take a tour of that property in this 2015 article by Daily Mail UK.)
Clearly, the couple leans toward clean, all-white interiors and blank canvas spaces. According to People, Beck collaborated with Pam Shamshiri of Commune for the design — best known for her work with west elm and the Ace Hotels group. Originally built in 1964 by Gerald R. Colcord, the 2,620-square-foot Tudor home features three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and loads of light and airy character and charm — plus the addition of a vaulted studio space above the garage.
The English country meets Southern California design in Brentwood’s rustic Mandeville Canyon features hand-hewn beams, large windows, French doors, and enchanting nooks and dormers, according to the listing. There’s a kitchen nook that looks to seat about eight — perfect for midnite vultures burning the wee hours catching up or eating a late dinner after a show, or for Hansen and Ribisi and their two young children to spend weekends around — and a den with a fireplace and cushioned window seat to fit a crowd in very cozy (one might say hygge) fashion.
According to Variety, Beck and Ribisi purchased the 0.9-acre property in March of 2016 from James Mangold and Cathy Konrad, co-writer and producer (respectively) of the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line. View the full listing at Partners Trust.
Seem like all the celebs are moving to the Hollywood Hills these days? Brentwood is still where it’s at: fellow musician Alanis Morrissette lived around the corner since 1996, though she did recently put her multi-million dollar home up for sale, as well.
