At the end of a hot summer day, there's still a cool summer night (ok, maybe not in NYC) and you might want to put something soft and warm over your sunburned skin. Light, cotton and linen summer blankets are super useful and just lovely to look at even if you don't need any more (like me) and they make great gifts when staying with friends as it's not the type of thing that non AT folks easily buy for themselves. Here's a summer selection of what I'm seeing out there that's great right now. Please tell me what you love and what I'm missing...

With the same name as my daughter, I'm predisposed to like this great summer blanket from IKEA, but it's good beyond the name. Made of 100% cotton, super affordable and with a big, strong cable knit pattern running through it, this is the perfect little cotton throw for every bed in the house, the car or making forts. 47" x 71" and comes in two colors currently (has also come in black).

Machine-washable and 100% cotton twill make this Nautica blanket a winner. The traditional windowpane plaid in a classic blue and red can fit into most decor themes. 66" x 90"

Available in two colors, the subtle pattern of this 100% cotton blanket from Target is graphic enough to make a statement, but hushed enough to blend in. 66" x 90"

Our Previous Lists:

What's not TOTALLY fun about this cotton and bamboo throw with big, fluffy pom poms from Anthropologie? 50" x 60"

A classic blue and white striped hand-loomed blanket made of 100% cotton from Dash & Albert. Perfect for the beach or your bed! 60" x 78"

From Caroline Z Hurley, this 100% indigo linen throw is pre-washed and block printed on top: "This linen throw is perfect for a table cloth, beach towel, couch throw, wrap dress, or anything else you can think of. All of our throws are individually block printed by hand with non-toxic acrylic ink." 74"x 58"

Directly from Coyuchi, this is their signature blanket in four colorways with a combination of chenille and cotton mixed: "Naturally luxurious, our blanket pairs the plush touch of chenille and the lightweight warmth of cotton. We washed it to create a subtly puckered texture. Each color reverses to ivory, offering two ways to layer." 60" x 47"

At Garnet Hill, designed by Eileen Fisher and made by Brahms Mount, this is a sweet, very straight ahead, rustic summer blanket. "Fine European linen is woven in Maine on antique looms to create this blanket with a rustic look and texture that's also incredibly soft." 50" x 70"

This lovely yard dyed 100% cotton and linen throw comes in three colors and is imported from India. 61" x 48"

From Brahms Mount, a unique and tradition bound Maine mill, this 100% linen and organically dyed throw is pre-washed and comes in five colors: "An offset stripe of openwork leno weaving adds texture and a hint of pattern. Breathable and naturally antimicrobial with a fibrous scent and hand." 42" x 76"
