My Dog Loves This $20 Amazon Bed So Much, I Bought One for Every Room

As a 4-year-old dog who doesn’t enjoy walks, my Coton de Tulear, Lily, has a fairly homebound existence. Her routine consists largely of morning cuddles with her human sister and terrorizing every dog — and person, bicycle, or menacing plastic bag — that deigns to appear on our NYC block from our ninth-floor windowsill. Plus, the occasional zoomies, eating, and sleeping. Lots and lots of sleeping.

Since Lily spends so much of her time sacked out (confirmed by our vet to be at healthy dog levels), I was determined to optimize this part of her day. She needed the perfect dog bed — something supercomfortable, attractive enough that it could be out at all times, and (for my benefit) reasonably priced. The calming donut bed by Best Friends by Sheri isn’t a new item, but boy, is it a good one. It comes in 17 different colors, including gray, pink, brown, and blue. It also comes in six different sizes; I keep the smallest in my dining room and one size up in my bedroom so Lily can stretch out at nighttime. The bed is donut-shaped, which creates the perfect cocoon-like sleeping environment, and it’s so soft and cozy that I occasionally have to pull my teenager off of it.

There’s so much to love about this dog bed. For starters, the $16 starting price point (for the smallest size) is just about as affordable as it gets. Beyond that, it doesn’t look like a typical dog bed would — I purchased all of mine in the “Frost Shag” color, which is so neutral and chic that it almost feels like an intentional decor moment. The bed is also easily machine washable — even in the tiny washer/dryers of my NYC apartment basement — and comes out clean and soft every time.

After four years, I’ve only replaced one of Lily’s donut beds, and that’s just because her sitter liked it so much that I gave it to her. The calming donut bed is sturdy, doesn’t lose its softness, and in a sea of questionable dog accessory purchases, it’s the one standout I’ll never regret buying.
