Sometimes the best way to keep your laundry off the floor is to find a bin or bag that you really love using. Whether it's a laundry basket that's good looking enough to keep on display or a back-of-door hanging bag that's functional and easy to use, the right system can make all the difference. Here are eleven options, from hampers to drawstring bags to industrial baskets.
Retro metal bins — like this Collapsible Laundry Basket from House 8810 ($90) — can fold up to save space, but they also look good just hanging out. Casters make them easy to move, and the elevated, open design circulates air through the clothes to keep them from stinking.
Designed for travel, this F1 Go Clean Laundry Pouch ($24) is a slim, space-saving bag made from nylon. You can pack these in your suitcase, or use them in a tiny clothes closet. Or you could keep them on display in a mod 60s-style bedroom.
Umbra On-line Store
Umbra's Crunch Can ($20) converts from a standing hamper into a flat canvas disc. Lined with plastic, it's made from a 100 percent cotton canvas shell. These are sold at the Container Store and other places, in addition to Umbra's webshop.
They have several laundry options, but one of the simplest is this Bronze Overdoor Hamper, on sale for $10 (reg. $15). A bronze hoop keeps the bag (sold separately) open for easy access. For a DIY version, see this tip from Martha Stewart.
Bed Bath & Beyond
The Real Simple Laundry Carryall ($20) works well for people who have to tote their laundry to the basement or a local laundromat. The canvas drawstring bag has a handle for carrying, and a side pocket can hold quarters.
If you've got a tiny bedroom, this is a multi-functional solution. Made from ABS plastic, the Componibili Square Laundry Hamper ($223) is 22 inches high with a flat top, so it can double as a nightstand. Wheels make it easy to move.
Velocity Art & Design
If your laundry bag is always on display, this is a pretty option. Made from 100% cotton, the Simrin Block Print Laundry Bag ($36) is available in 6 different patterns and has a drawstring as well as a strap for carrying.
Steele Canvas Basket Company
If you've got the space, these industrial laundry baskets look great and they're deep enough to hold a large load of sheets. Made from canvas stretched over a steel frame, they come in multiple sizes and styles. Shown: Round Carry Basket, starting at $56.
This Clementine Storage Bushel ($275) was one of Maxwell's Daily Finds. It's pricey, but it's pretty enough to be showcased as part of your bedroom decor. Made of printed cotton duck over a steel frame, it's available in several different colors and patterns.
They make a few different heavy-duty coated canvas bins in signature DwellStudio patterns. You can keep them out in the open and use them for laundry, toy storage, or folded towels. Shown: Dots Storage Bin Set, on sale for $115 (reg. $125).
These started out in England as garden buckets, but they've found their way into the American market as multi-purpose pieces that can be used as laundry baskets or storage bins. Made from colored plastic in 15 colors, tub trugs start around $10.
