When Sue Liedke moved into her South Philly pad, she says the bathroom was “dark” and “dingy,” and she “had a vision of a cute and bright ’50s ladies room.” With rosy floor tiles already installed, she had the tub, tile, and sink reglazed in pink and found a vintage toilet in a matching hue. She then finished off the space with vinyl wallpaper from the ’70s and vintage accessories. 

Stefanie and Chris Archer live with their three kids in an old Amsterdam warehouse that has been designated a UNESCO Heritage Site. The family considers themselves “antique market experts,” regularly scouring local markets and shops. One find? Their 18th-century mercury entryway mirror, which they hunted down from a French antique dealer after two years of searching for the right piece.

Jessica and Justin’s Tacoma, Washington, place is brimming with amazing pieces they’ve come across on the side of the road, including a vintage orange-flowered couch in Jessica’s office and a painted sideboard dresser in the dining room. 

Desiré van den Berg says her Amsterdam apartment is teeming with budget furniture — as in, “in between ‘pick up ASAP for free’ to 100 euros max per piece.” Her tip? Use simple keywords to search for secondhand pieces online. “Try to avoid terms such as ‘mid-century’ or ‘Scandinavian,’ as only people who know what their items are worth would use these words,” she said in her house tour. 

Joy Lofton told AT that once she stopped worrying about her home purchases all going together, “a nice flow seemed to happen naturally on its own.” That’s evident throughout her Los Angeles house, which features stunners like a curved vintage couch and a 14-foot gallery wall of entirely thrifted art. 

Valentina and Mark Tansley are longtime collectors of Victorian-era antiques, and their home in Australia is an 1880s-build in that same style. However, their creative backgrounds mean it stays fresh with bold colors, modern patterns, and quirky decor. 

Michelle Qazi owns a home decor store and handpicks the items herself, meaning she gets the first crack at pieces for her Bellevue, Washington, pad. “I love it all — ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, ’80s,” she told AT, although her home gives off a strong ’70s vibe overall, aided by vaulted ceilings and wood paneling.

This Long Island house is so artfully curated with vintage finds that the owner, Kate Pearce, used it to launch her business, Kate Pearce Vintage. In addition to helping create beautiful spaces for less money, Kate told AT she loves buying vintage because it’s better for the planet. “It’s really an all-around win: lower prices, saving pieces from landfills, and creating a home that is personal and unique,” she said.

Lee Alford and Matt McKinnon sprinkled the interior of their vintage maximalist home in Australia with secondhand finds, including their dining table set, artwork, pottery, mugs, and even the couple’s biggest indulgence: a large Turkish kilim in the living room.  

Most of the accent and decorative items found around Brandi Ware’s Brooklyn digs are sourced from family and antique flea markets. “The majority of furniture pieces in my apartment are pre-loved. Most of which I have re-worked to [complement] my design,” she told AT. “My grandmother, friends, and Craigslist are the sources of some of my favorite pieces.”

Amelie Mancini and Rami Metal’s Brooklyn place bursts with color and antiques, including a Louis XIV armoire that Mancini inherited from her grandparents. “My grandfather kept his record player and vinyls and his collection of assorted liquor and spirits in it, and when I was a kid it looked massive and mysterious,” she said in the couple’s house tour. “The armoire grew a bit smaller as I grew a bit bigger (although it’s still pretty big by any standards!) and after my grandparents passed it came to live with me in New York.”

Among the joyful rooms in Merissa Nathan Gerson’s New Orleans shotgun home, you’ll spot a collection of pre-loved wicker.
