If you’re not lucky enough to live in a home with an outdoor space, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the lovely, layabout feeling of a summer afternoon spent drowsing away on the porch. Things like hammocks and swings and hanging chairs aren’t just for outside: you can also, if you’re feeling a bit adventurous (and have the right hardware!) add one to your living room.

I’m partial to hanging chairs, like this one in a home from The Style Files. Sitting in one, I imagine, would be a bit like an instant vacation.

Few things compare to the childlike joy one feels on a swing. My apartment might be a bit too small to swing freely without knocking into something, but if it wasn’t I would definitely be looking at making this DIY swing from Park & Cube.
