When I was growing up, I always looked forward to my family’s (unofficial) Easter egg decorating day. It was an “event” — my mom would bravely lead my siblings and me through stenciling and dyeing techniques, trying to help us work through lots of accidental fingerprints (despite her best efforts, those ultimately were common features on our finished work).

Artistic abilities aside, our completed eggs always ended up as a colorful staple in our home. We’d show them off in a large decorative bowl that moved from the dining table to the coffee table. This became a fixture of our spring decor that we’d look forward to displaying every year.

I decided to incorporate decorated Easter eggs into my own space starting last year, and after the work I put in with designing them, I was determined to make my creations the center of attention. I wanted a display that would allow the eggs to stand out on their own, instead of being collectively kept in a more traditional bowl or basket where only some would catch the eye. The solution? These stylish half-dozen ceramic egg crates that were only $13. Yes, they’re making an appearance again this year!

I was still in Barbiecore mode when I made this purchase; I went with a set of two half-dozen trays in light pink so they’d really pop off the coffee table books and side tables I was planning to place them on. Not a pink fan? These also come in black, blue, white, and a couple of other fun tones. If you want to go bigger, there’s a size that can hold a full dozen, too.

I never owned egg trays before this, so I was nervous about the actual size of these half-dozen sets and their overall quality. Those concerns quickly faded when they arrived, though, as right away I felt how smooth and solid these were.

This spring I styled the trays on similar books in similar spots, although they now have my pink limewash walls as a backdrop and instead hold pre-designed, wooden eggs (vs. dyed ones). Honestly, I happily put the paintbrushes down and made the move to imitation eggs for 2025. Not only did I save myself time and money by not doing a full-on DIY, but I also now have a gorgeous assortment of eggs to repurpose. Plus, the pre-designed eggs kind of blow mine out of the water.

Equally unexpected and space-savvy, these ceramic egg trays display the most delightful, seasonal accent in my living room. The porcelain exterior makes them scratch-resistant, so I don’t have to worry when moving them around. They’re a nice seasonal change-up from the candles that typically sit where I put them.

One of the best parts about these trays, though, is their versatility. Once the Easter season wraps up, I run them through the dishwasher and then place them right into my refrigerator to be a fancy, food-safe home for more edible eggs. Also, for entertainers, these egg trays can be a great hosting essential if you want a pretty display for deviled eggs or another delicate hors d’oeuvre in your spread.

In a way, displaying Easter eggs in my space feels like a nostalgic nod to those childhood moments I have of Easter DIYing. My paintbrush may be collecting dust this year, but I’m still glad to be showing off (again) what these ceramic trays can do.
