This Dreamy Blue Is Clark+Kensington’s 2027 Color of the Year — and It’s So Easy to Decorate With

As we get closer to 2027, many of us (myself included!) are thinking of a major home makeover — or even moving into a new space altogether. But it’s hard to know where to even begin, which is why most design professionals advise starting with a clear color palette. That’s why this fall I’m taking in all of the ways color experts are looking ahead in their color forecasts, also known as their Color of the Year (or COTY) announcements, as well as their accompanying palettes.

Ace Hardware’s proprietary paint brand, Clark+Kensington, just announced its pick this week (along with two complementary color palettes!) and it might just be my favorite yet. Informed by trends and selected by experts, their selection feels both super-stylish and ultra-approachable, as it’s rooted in the world outside our homes (hello, biophilic design!). Meet Vantage Point (38B-4), a stunning and sophisticated light blue hue that’s modeled after a slice of clear sky on a beautiful day.  

Clark+Kensington’s choice of hue feels right on point (pun intended!) for 2027. Vantage Point is both on-trend and timeless. I saw it in person, and it felt like they literally pulled a beautiful blue sky on a sunny, cloudless day into the walls in front of me. The Clark+Kensington design team paired up with color trend forecaster Colour Hive to select this year’s shade, which reflects a growing desire for “uplifting and restorative” interiors, according to the brand’s press release. The beautiful blue hue feels both bold and familiar, thanks to its warm undertones. It’s a perfect calming backdrop for any design style. 

The brand’s two accompanying color palettes for 2027 — “Drift” and “Mellow” — further expand upon these skyline vibes with sunrise- and sunset-inspired shades. Drift features lighter tones meant to capture “the hopeful feeling of a new day.” Warm neutrals pair perfectly with the sunny yellow shade Catching Rays — as well as lighter blue and green hues, Of the Wind and Family Reunion. Mellow, on the other hand, echoes “the soft glow of the horizon” at sunset with deeper, earthy tones like Charley’s Horse, Pure Zen, and Adobe Hut. This combination of red, pink, and blue tones feels so youthful and fun, but sophisticated at the same time. 

After years of warm neutrals dominating the design industry, newer trends seem to be shifting towards blues and greens, however muted they may be. Sherwin-Williams’ COTY pick, Celery, is a light green with warm yellow undertones. But while that brand’s pick leans into earthy, grounded vibes, it seems the pros at Clark+Kensington looked up to the sky for inspiration. And yet both are traditionally cool-toned colors with warm undertones, which marks the start of an interesting color trend. 

“Vantage Point brings a sense of warmth and character to interiors,” says Ace Hardware’s CMO Kim Lefko in a press release, “offering a versatile blue that feels fresh for 2027 yet timeless enough to live with for years to come.” So if you’re planning a makeover or a move into a new space, consider pairing Vantage Point with shades from the Drift or Mellow palettes for a designer look. Or, make blue the focal point by pairing it with natural textures and earthy tones, like warm woods and rattan accents.
