Sherwin-Williams’ Color of the Year Is Bringing the Outside In (It’s Perfect for City-Dwellers!)

Biophilic design is everywhere right now, and I’m loving it. Tastemakers always seem to be looking out their windows for “timeless” inspiration. Obviously, Mother Nature never goes out of style. And bringing the outside in, so to speak, is a great way to make your space feel grounded in an increasingly busy world.

For all of those reasons, nature-inspired color palettes have been trending for a while. But after years of warmer neutral colors reigning supreme, I’m sensing a shift towards greens and blues. That intuition was confirmed this morning, when Sherwin-Williams became the latest paint company to announce its 2027 Color of The Year, a gorgeous green shade called Celery (SW 6421)

Back in July, Apartment Therapy called chartreuse the next “it” shade, and Sherwin-Williams’ pick is not far off from that hue. While Celery is much softer and more muted than a true chartreuse — and not quite as bold or as polarizing — it does have the same warmth many people love. This light green shade simply packs a more subtle, sophisticated punch. 

In a press release, Sherwin-Williams describes the color as “peaceful as a sunny glade,” which is comparing it to a bright, airy clearing in the forest. Thanks to those subtle yellow undertones, the shade does feel welcoming despite being a technically “cool” color. To me, it feels fun, fresh, and timeless, too; thanks to its lack of saturation, Celery is a truly approachable green and one that I’d never grow tired of seeing on my own walls. 

This is the second year Sherwin-Williams has teamed up with HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams in choosing a joint color of the year (COTY). In 2026, Universal Khaki, a beautiful beige, marked a choice that was anything but boring. But with Celery, the brands hoped to strike a chord with those looking for even more personality from their paint. “People want to have fun with their spaces,” Sherwin-Williams’ color marketing manager Ashley Banbury said when I spoke with her about the selection last month. 

Banbury explained that her team chose Celery as a reflection of three common contemporary values: wellness, balance, and connection. The Sherwin team hopes the shade will help to create spaces that feel both soothing and energizing, simulating the effect of actually spending time in nature. So for city-dwellers living in sometimes restrictive spaces without much greenery, Celery feels like the perfect choice. “[It] brings a calming yet uplifting presence to any space,” Banbury says. 

In addition to the Color of the Year, Sherwin-Williams also announced their 2027 Colormix Trend Forecast, “Rewild,” this morning. The collection includes a palette of complementary colors to help make Celery an even more approachable choice for any home. I can confirm these shades look incredible together — I’ve seen the swatches IRL! For the pastel-lovers, Potentially Purple (SW 6821) makes a great pairing. Or for those looking for something even bolder, Kirsch Red (SW 6313) looks incredible with the warm-toned green.
